More than a thousand engineers are updated in structures

A few 1,250 participants update their knowledge during the First International Congress of Structural Engineering that takes place in five Dominican universities simultaneously.

The meeting, organized by the coordinator of the Master in Structural Engineering of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Nelson Morrison, is held on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 this month, with the participation of 12 national exhibitors and international 13, linked to the design and development of seismic codes in their respective countries.

El Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU), the Organization and Methods University (O&M), the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and the Ibero-American University (UNIBE) welcome the participants of the meeting, which includes both professionals as students.

"Structures are the most affected when earthquakes occur, so Structural Engineering acquires special relevance, as well as design and seismic resistance. This congress allows engineers to know the state of the art on these issues, as well as new technologies to build safer structures, "said Morrison.

INTEC's Master's in Structural Engineering, the only one in the country on this subject, has been taught for 30 years and has graduated about 200 professionals. Each year it opens a round in November, according to Morrison, who is also president of Computers & Structures Inc. and Morrison Ingenieros.
