According to a report by the newspaper El Día, the businessman Manuel Corripio expressed that during the election “the members of the jury y advisors for the Corripio Foundation, unanimously determined that Manuel Matos Moquete, who cultivated the test, narrative, Literary criticism, anthologies y Speech analysisIt is a source of pride for the foundation for being the most important literary award in the Dominican Republic ”.

The outstanding novelist and essayist from the municipality of Tamayo, Bahoruco province, was chosen by a jury made up of the rectors of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Emma Polanco; Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, Alfredo de la Cruz (PUCMM); Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU), José Rafael Espaillat; Central University of Este (UCE), José Hazim Torres; Universidad Católica de Santo Domingo (UCSD), Monsignor Jesús Castro Marte and INTEC, Rolando M. Guzmán, together with the Minister of Culture, Eduardo Selman; the president of the Dominican Academy of Language, Bruno Rosario Candelier, and Manuel Corripio representing the Corripio Foundation.

El recognition, which will be delivered on 26 February, consists of a diploma and an endowment of two million de pesos.

 About Matos Moquete 

Matos Moquete is number member for the Dominican Academy of the Language since 2003. He has been a librarian at that institution and a member of its Board of Directors. He is also a corresponding member of the Royal Spanish Academy and a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Dominican Republic.

It has a Doctorate in Literature, Paris VIII University; Master of Modern Letters, Paris III University; Bachelor of Modern Literature, Paris III University; Y Bachelor of Teaching French for Foreigners, University Paris III.

At INTEC he stood out as a teacher of various subjects of Spanish Language, a chair he entered in 1982, remaining uninterrupted for 36 years, and as a researcher and coordinator of the Master in Applied Linguistics. He is one of the authors of the Program "A Day with the Author and his Work", Through which the university recognizes each year a prominent figure from different fields, and coordinated several diplomas, courses and workshops.
