Lourdes Contreras, among the most outstanding women

SANTO DOMINGO. The coordinator of the Center for Gender Studies of INTEC (CEG-INTEC), Lourdes Contreras, was awarded in the first installment of the Minerva Awards, within the category "Social Impact".

This recognition was given by the Minerva Group, which works for the construction of a world in which women have the same opportunities as men to access leadership positions, without this meaning renouncing a full life.

Contreras was recognized for her great influence on Dominican society within the framework of women's rights and the ability of women to empower themselves in political, economic and social processes. Her ideas about the need for women to develop their knowledge, that they get involved in their training, to achieve a development in their cognitive and leadership abilities, they were able to be included in the award along with nine other outstanding women in society, in the ceremony that took place in the Aida Cartagena Room of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library.

During the ceremony, Daris Estrella, Patricia Bobea, Silvia Rosales, Patricia de Moya, Rosario Sang, Suz Amaro, Gisela Eusebio and Soraya Lara were also awarded. And it was attended by Bronia Krause, a survivor of the Nazi concentration camps of the Second World War, to whom the activity was dedicated.

Lourdes Contreras said that one of her greatest legacies for future Dominican leaders is precisely the work she does with the INTEC students. In his speech he held "the message that I transmit to my students every day, my work in the classroom, to develop concerns and to develop knowledge in favor of equality".
