INTEC Laboratory receives EMA accreditation in metalworking

Santo Domingo.- The Mexican Accreditation Entity (EMA) granted the Materials Testing Laboratory of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) an accreditation that endorses it as "Laboratory of Tests in the area of Metalworking", becoming the first laboratory in the Dominican Republic with an internationally accredited test to perform stress on metals.

With the accreditation number MM-0422-054 / 12 of the EMA it is guaranteed that the laboratory complies with the requirements established in the Mexican Standard NMX-EC-17025-IMNC-2006 (ISO / IEC 17025: 2005), both of technical competencies and the necessary management system requirements so that you can consistently deliver technically valid test and calibration results.

The EMA is a prestigious accreditor that represents Mexico as one of the five Latin American countries that form part of the Mutual and Multilateral Recognition Agreement (MRA / MLA), which brings together the world's highest verification bodies.

The Academic Vice-Rector of INTEC, Leandra Tapia, thanked the National Competitiveness Council (CNC) for its support and stated that "the existence in the country of an internationally accredited laboratory for trials in the area of metalworking positively impacts the level of competitiveness of the country and It also saves costs for companies that normally have to do these tests in other countries to maintain their quality standards. "

The laboratory services are key for the Dominican industrial and export sector, especially for construction, chemical, metallurgy and lumber companies. It performs physical and mechanical tests on raw materials and products to determine its properties.

Tapia said that the support of the CNC was crucial, that it financed part of the costs of the accreditation, especially the hiring of an advisor, training of the laboratory equipment in audits, technical visit in an accredited laboratory and the payment of the accreditation.

He thanked the institutions that have collaborated with the laboratory such as the General Directorate of Standards and Quality Systems (DIGENOR), as well as local and international companies that have entrusted their tests to the laboratory for three years.

This accreditation is added to that of the Civil Engineering degree by the agency G-CREAS (Great Caribbean Regional Engineering Association System), which regionally accredited this academic program of INTEC.

The scope of accreditation number MM-0422-054 / 12 of the EMA is:

Test

Standard and / or Reference Method

Tension test in metallic materials. Rectangular flat test tubes of 12,5mm and 6mm width with maximum machine capacity of 50kN (load capacity).

ASTM E8 / E8M-11
Standard Test Methods for Tension Testing of Metallic Materials.

More about the EMA
Currently, among all regional and international organizations, the number of signatory countries of the Mutual and Multilateral Recognition Agreement (MRA / MLA) amounts to more than 50. The accreditation system in Mexico, represented by EMA, is comparable to the signatory members of multilateral agreements such as the United States, Canada, France, Brazil, Argentina, China, Japan, to name a few.

Services of the Material Testing Laboratory
Some of the tests carried out by the laboratory are key for the Dominican industrial and export sector, especially for construction companies, chemistry, metallurgy and lumber, among others. The tests are:
• Hardness and impact tests, metallographic analysis, analysis of wood species, flexure in composites (wood, plastics, foam and ceramics such as stones or bricks), peeling, tearing and friction tests.

• It also performs compression tests (on plastics, some ceramic materials, composites, food and food packaging) and tension tests (on metals, parallel fiber wood, perpendicular fiber wood, plastics, packaging, biomedical, electronic, electrical, wires, plastic films, cables, welding tension, adhesives and fibers).

The laboratory works with the GRANTA CES Edupack 2012 Software, a database of properties of standardized materials, which is used to select materials, processes and product design.
