Inteciana is certified as the first Ambassador for the Climate of the DR

SANTO DOMINGO. The coordinator of the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level of the INTEC Basic and Environmental Sciences Area, Dr. Jeanette Chaljub, obtained a certification as Climate Ambassador for the EN ROADS simulator, after completing training in the system developed by Climate Interactive and MIT Sustainability Initiative.

The INTEC teacher becomes the first and only person certified in this tool in the Dominican Republic, joining a network of 630 ambassadors in 75 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America and Oceania.

The EN ROADS simulator is a system of levers mediated by technology in which people can interact to predict a series of strategies that could be carried out, according to various proposals and situations presented, in order to reach reasonable temperatures according to the Paris Agreement. , whose goal is to limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius. It allows visualizing the impact of climate actions and their possible solutions, in real time, simulating one hundred years of data on energy, land and climate to find solutions in less than 1 second.

“Having participated in this training on the EN ROADS simulator, designed by Climate Interactive and the MIT Sustainability Initiative, for case analysis and possible proposals for climate action, has been a very enriching experience as a professional and as a teacher. In addition, it is a didactic tool that promotes active learning in students and seeks to sensitize them about the use and consumption of global sources of primary energy”, explained Chaljub.

In the academic's opinion, the training received will strengthen teaching strategies in all areas of knowledge and at all levels, as well as develop critical thinking for decision-making that is environmentally responsible. She also stated that, as an ambassador, she will be able to motivate and collaborate in the training of other teachers at the university and at the national level.

"Beyond the institution, at the country level, INTEC could be the spearhead to, through this simulator, create forums and discussions on the environmental issue, in which decision makers on public policies, as well as businessmen, Ministries and productive sectors have meeting points to discuss environmental issues that affect us,” Chaljub said.

The Climate Ambassadors program is aimed at highly motivated facilitators, committed to learning about EN ROADS tools and disseminating data-based climate insights around the world. Only those who have completed the EN ROADS simulator driving training program can register as ambassadors.
