INTEC and the Polytechnic University of Valencia would expand inter-institutional cooperation initiatives


SANTO DOMINGO. The cooperative relationships between Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the Polytechnic University of Valencia They could be expanded with new double degree programmes, joint work between research centers and teaching groups, and teaching exchanges between both entities.

These are some of the main conclusions of the meeting held by the rector of INTEC, Julio Sanchez Marinez, with the rector of the UPV, José E. Capilla Roma, during a recent visit to the headquarters of that university in Valencia, Spain.

The rector of INTEC, accompanied by the professor of the Engineering Area Jorge Miranda, expressed to the rector of the UPV the high assessment of the academy with respect to the results of their relations, as is the case of the master's degrees with double degrees in Logistics and Project Management that universities have implemented to date.

The academics contemplated the need to establish cooperative relationships between the institutes, centers and research faculty groups of both universities, particularly those focused on the plastics industry, energy, and mobility and transportation. They also evaluated the possibility that INTEC professors can carry out doctoral studies at the UPV, as well as having advice on the development of industrial doctoral programs.

Next, the rector of INTEC and Professor Miranda held various work meetings with academics from the institution, with the aim of identifying alternatives for the implementation of what was discussed with the rector Capilla Romá.

Work agenda

The first of the strategic meetings of the rector of INTEC was with Lynne Paula Yenush and Javier Martínez, director and secretary of the UPV Doctoral School, as well as with Esther Pla, International Relations Technician, with whom viable alternatives were examined so that the professors of the institution can carry out doctoral studies at the UPV.

Similarly, the rector and Professor Miranda met with professors José Aguilar, director of the Department of Transport Infrastructure, and Alfredo García, director of the Institute of Transport and Territory, both from the School of Civil Engineering, Canals and Ports of the UPV, with whom they discussed the establishment of cooperative relations between the Institute of Transport and Territory of the UPV and the INTEC mobility and transport teaching group.

The work schedule continued with a meeting with Ángel Ortiz, academic director of the Master's Degree in Advanced Production, Logistics and Supply Chain Engineering (MUIAPLCS) and deputy director of the Production Management and Engineering Research Center. They discussed ways to expand relations with the UPV, the relaunch of the UPV-INTEC double degree master's degree in Logistics and Supply Chain, the opportunities for INTEC professors to carry out their doctoral studies at the UPV, among other topics.

The next meeting was with Lorenzo Solano, academic director of the Master's Degree in Computer Aided Engineering Design and Manufacturing, with whom he discussed the possibility of arranging the double degree modality of various programs.

The agenda continued with Edgar Pérez Esteve, Academic Director of the Master's in Food Science and Technology, and María Eugenia Martín, Academic Director of the Master's in Food Safety and Quality Management. At this meeting, possible support from the UPV to the purposes of INTEC to venture into training in food technology, as well as in the development of its recent laboratory for studies on food safety, opening doors for INTEC professors in Biotechnology and Industrial Engineering to establish relationships with professors of the aforementioned master's degrees from the UPV.

The visit continued with a meeting at the Technological Institute of Energy (ITE) with Alfredo Quijano López, vice president of the Governing Council of ITE, and with Manuel Hortal, former secretary of said Council, who presented the facilities and experiences of that entity. As a result of this visit, communication channels were left open for the possible development at INTEC of an initiative similar to that of ITE.

Later, the rector of INTEC was received by Pedro Coca, president of the Etnor Foundation, dedicated to the promotion of business ethics and, after learning the details of the work of that institution, a channel was left open for possible cooperation with INTEC and with the business community in the Dominican Republic.

Finally, the agenda concluded with a visit to José Pedro García, vice-rector for Planning, Academic Offering and Digital Transformation, with whom they recapitulated on the different contacts maintained with the academic areas of the UPV and on the best ways to promote exchange between professors. and students.

The visit to the UPV was part of an agenda of strategic visits made by the rector of INTEC, with a view to strengthening ties with European institutions based on the 2023-2027 Strategic Plan.

As part of the series of meetings, the Rector also met with authorities from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and participated as a full member in the Annual Assembly of the Ibero-American Postgraduate University Association (AUIP).
