INTEC and UNESCO train journalists in digital innovation and the use of Artificial Intelligence tools

The program seeks to address the growing challenges facing contemporary journalism in ensuring rigorous, timely, and ethical journalistic coverage.

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) began the cycle of workshops for the course “Digital Innovation and the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools”, an academic project sponsored by UNESCO that seeks to respond to the growing challenges facing contemporary journalism.

The training aimed at 34 leaders of the national media ecosystemIncluding directors, editors y journalists from media outletsIt aims to consolidate a more resilient, transparent information ecosystem prepared to face emergency scenarios, climate crisis and complex digital environments marked by accelerated digitization, disinformation, and global crises.

The course will be taught by Specialist in applied artificial intelligence and risk management, those who claim that communicators  acquire good mastery of technological tools based on Artificial Intelligence (IA) to ensure rigorous, timely and ethical journalistic coverage.

At the end of the workshops, participants are expected to develop skills to verify, contextualize and communicate accurate information during crisis situations, implement digital monitoring and automation strategies with an ethical focus and produce applicable materials that strengthen news coverage in emergencies.

At the end of the course, participants will join a regional network of journalists committed to technological innovation and responsible communication.

The program comprises four two-hour workshops, to be held between January 15 and April 15, 2026, in a hybrid format so that journalists from different provinces can also participate in the sessions.

Each workshop will combine synchronous activities with intermediate application microtasks and access to support materials through a virtual classroom.
