INTEC and the Dominican Society of Pediatrics sign an agreement to strengthen training and research in child health.

The agreement will promote research and training in pediatrics.

SANTO DOMINGO. - Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the Dominican Society of Pediatrics (SDP) formalized a collaboration agreement with the aim of joining forces to carry out academic, research, and outreach activities that positively impact children's health in the Dominican Republic.

The signing of the agreement took place in INTEC's Social Security Auditorium (OSES), with the participation of officials from both institutions. The agreement signed by INTEC's interim rector, Alliet Ortega, and the president of the SDP, Rosa Acevedo, establishes the basis for jointly developing teaching initiatives, continuing education programs, research projects, and scientific outreach activities in areas of common interest.

During the event held at INTEC's Social Security Auditorium (OSES), Ortega expressed that this partnership represents a significant step in the academy's commitment to strengthening training and social outreach in the field of children's health.

“Childhood is a key stage in every person's development, and at INTEC, we are convinced that the union between academia and pediatric professionals will contribute not only to the better education of our students, but also to the well-being of our society,” said the university's vice-rector for Administration and Finance.

For his part, Acevedo emphasized that this agreement expands the organization's impact beyond the medical field, extending into the community.

"Our country suffers from the belief that processes end with a signature, but implementing what has been decided is what can achieve real change in our country, especially by training professionals who are up to the task in each of the spaces they operate in the context of an emerging economy," the pediatrician stated.

The agreement was promoted by Dr. Pablo Smester, coordinator of the INTEC Simulation Laboratory, who emphasized the purely academic nature of the initiative and its direct benefit to pediatric healthcare professionals and, ultimately, to younger patients.

The ceremony concluded with an exchange of official documents and photographs with INTEC officials, faculty, and medical students.

The agreement began with the first Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training course on July 11 and 12. The course is offered by INTEC's Medical Simulation Laboratory, licensed by the American Heart Association Training Center.
