INTEC and the DGAPP will promote training on public-private partnerships


SANTO DOMINGO. – In order to encourage the academic and professionalization in terms of public-private partnerships, Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the General Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships (DGAPP) formalized a collaboration agreement to carry out joint academic activities on the PPP model.

The agreement was signed by the executive director of the DGAPP, Sigmund Freund and the rector of INTEC, Julio Sánchez Maríñez, in an act held at the university, in the presence of officials and executives of both entities.

At the conclusion of the act, Freund expressed his satisfaction with the agreement and pointed out its importance in terms of the country being able to count on qualified human capital to ensure the best practices for structuring and executing public-private partnership projects and initiatives that impact positively the sustainable development of the country.

He stressed that PPPs are a vital tool to increase investment in infrastructure that the country needs so much to improve the competitiveness of the productive sectors and provide the different communities with projects that facilitate employment and economic dynamism.

In his words, the rector of INTEC expressed that, in the year of its fiftieth anniversary, the university reaffirms its commitment to working hand in hand with the productive sectors not only through the training of professionals of excellence, but also through the offer various services and research.

"We are extremely pleased to sign this alliance, which we trust will have a significant impact on the quality of life of Dominicans, and that will allow us to strategically drive our economic activity," said Sánchez Maríñez.

Through this agreement, the DGAPP and INTEC agree to coordinate the performance of academic activities (teaching, research, training, dissemination) related to public-private partnerships, their regulatory and institutional scheme, the decisions and resolutions of the Directorate and the National Council of Public-Private Partnerships (CNAPP).

Both entities also agreed to provide mutual collaboration in the development of: research activities, seminars, courses, workshops, exchange of academic and scientific documents, joint training programs, joint publications, scholarship programs, internships for INTEC graduates, visits institutions for undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education students, and other academic and scientific activities.

About the DGAPP

The DGAPP is the institution responsible for the structuring, promotion, supervision and regulation of infrastructure projects, goods and services of social interest, which are planned and developed in the Dominican Republic under the modality of public-private partnerships (PPPs).

Currently, the DGAPP has a portfolio of projects and initiatives in different development areas of the country. Two years after the creation of the DGAPP and after President Luis Abinader appointed Sigmund Freund as its first executive director, the institution has managed to establish itself on a robust institutional base supported by regulations, methodologies, standards and ethical guidelines consistent with what that the regulations provide.
