INTEC and FFAA agree to cooperate on border and environmental issues


Admiral Sigfrido A. Pared Pérez, M de G. (DEM), Minister of the Dominican Armed Forces, and Rolando M. Guzmán, rector of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), signed a framework agreement between both institutions, which includes collaboration and advice on issues of Dominican-Haitian relations and the environment, as well as facilities for training activities and professionalization of members of the Armed Forces through the Education Program and Professional Training of the Armed Forces “Great Restorer General Gregorio Luperón”.

In a special way, the institutions commit themselves to collaborate with the members of the Dominican Armed Forces in Dominican-Haitian issues, through the Specialized Land Border Security Body (CESFRONT) and the Dominican-Haitian Study Center (CEDH).

The ministry will provide facilities and favorable conditions to develop programs and research projects, training and documentation of national interest on the Dominican-Haitian relations, transnational migrations, border areas of the island, while the INTEC, will present proposals for projects and programs of national and border development and mutual institutional interest, within the framework of the university areas of Business, Engineering and Health.

The cooperation also includes joint reforestation operations and projects aimed at caring for the environment, natural resources and border development.

The agreement was signed by Rolando M. Guzmán, General Siegfried Pared Pérez and General Manuel Nadal.

 

An official, enlisted and assimilated 20 of the Dominican Armed Forces will have the possibility each year of receiving scholarships of up to 33% in INTEC degree, postgraduate and continuing education studies through the Armed Forces Professional Education and Training Program "Great General Restaurador Gregorio Luperón", directed by Brigadier General Manuel S. Nadal Rosa, EN, (DEM). The annual group of scholarship recipients will benefit from the entry and stay conditions of the university.

The Ministry of the Armed Forces will put at the disposal of the INTEC, the sports and recreational facilities, as well as the Band of Music and artistic groups of the Armed Forces, upon request and coordination. It will also provide defense and security specialists, physical education instructors and national park guides, upon request and coordination.

The ministry will also facilitate the facilities of the Vocational Schools of the Armed Forces for INTEC graduate and post-graduate students interested in performing internships and specialties related to the topic of prevention in the use of narcotic drugs.

These initiatives are part of the Professional Training Program of the Armed Forces "Grand General Gregorio Luperón", created by Decree No. 479 (August of 2000), which in turn meets the mandate of the Organic Law of the Armed Forces (873-78), to promote the progressive education and the overcoming of the personnel of the military bodies, in addition to their military education.
