INTEC and the World Food Program train 31 specialists in supply chain and humanitarian logistics


SANTO DOMINGO - Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo, (INTEC) and the United Nations World Food Program, with the financial support of the Humanitarian Assistance Bureau of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID/BHA), conducted the second graduation of the diploma on supply chain and humanitarian logistics.

With the objective of strengthening the capacities of public and private entities related to the humanitarian supply chain in the country, 31 graduates They have specialized knowledge and mechanisms that will help strengthen the supply chain in emergency scenarios, and support an effective and efficient response at the national level. 

The course was held within the framework of the project "Strengthening the capacity of the humanitarian supply chain and operational preparedness in the Dominican Republic for the response to national and cross-border emergencies”, financed by USAID/BHA and implemented by the WFP, and highlights in its training offer the importance of the supply chain in the capacity of institutions to provide an effective response to emergencies, thus saving the lives and resources of people in need. higher condition of vulnerability.

"For our university it is a source of great joy to see the completion of the training of a second group of professionals in a sector of such decisive importance for our country as the supply chain, and precisely for this INTEC was created 50 years ago, to respond to the needs of professionals in Dominican society. Our project is to continue working hand in hand with the productive sectors and promote their development through the training of resources of the highest quality”, said the Rector of INTEC, Julio Sánchez Maríñez.

“For the World Food Program, today is of the utmost importance because we can say that the country's logistics preparation capacities have been further strengthened through the transmission of knowledge to graduates in an aspect that is so relevant to the Dominican Republic as is the supply chain and emergency response. We are here today to celebrate but also to emphasize the need to continue carrying out efforts like this one, to strengthen the preparedness capacities of the different national actors, government, private sector, academia, civil society and humanitarian actors, to respond in the event of a possible national or subregional emergency. ” said Angel Camacho Sosa, officer in charge, of the United Nations World Food Program.

The beneficiary institutions and companies play a key role at the national and local levels in the supply chain and transit operations of humanitarian aid.
