INTEC and Cultural Center of Spain announce biennial design

SANTO DOMINGO. The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the Cultural Center of Spain (CCESD) will commemorate Dominican Designer Day with the second edition of the Dominican Republic Design [dRD] biennial event, from July 29 to next September 10.

[dRD] will explore the relationship between craftsmanship and design through a broad program of activities (exhibitions, conferences, workshops, guided tours and others). It will show how designers collaborate with groups of artisans to stimulate the development and preservation of craftsmanship in a viable manner. In this way, the development of the design in the local market and the importance it has for the national economy will be shown.

National and international guests will give lectures and videoconferences at INTEC, in an active agenda available on the website disenord.com.

The conferences will be complemented with two exhibitions at the Cultural Center of Spain (CCESD). In one of the exhibitions will be shown the designs with craft materials of a large group of designers among which are Jenny Polanco, Los Tejedores, Zagarella, La Alpargatería, La Buena Fe, Casa Alfarera, Vanilla and Joao Rodriguez.

Another of the samples will present the results of the guano works of designers from different disciplines, who visited the El Limón community of Mata del Jobo in Santiago Rodríguez, where guano artisans work. In this group of designers are José Durán, Trapitos de Sofia, Orlando Isaac, Nooficial, Michelle Urtecho, Modafoca, Mateo5 and Madame Blanco. Both exhibitions can be visited from Monday to Saturday from 9 AM to 9 PM

Among the international guests are the Puerto Rican designer Eddie Figueroa, the Brazilians Mauricio Noronha and Rodrigo Brenner (Furf) and professional designers and artisans from Mexico (Alejandra Villegas, Kerim Fahara and Karime Perez), Peru (María del Carmen De La Fuente in representation of Allpa SAC), Ecuador (Silvia Zeas and Defactors), Colombia (José Argotty), USA (Jesse Bert) and Uruguay (Cecilia Lalanne on behalf of Manitas de Uruguay).
