INTEC and CEDIMAT join forces to strengthen training and medical research

Santo Domingo. El Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the Center for Diagnosis, Advanced Medicine and Telemedicine (CEDIMAT) signed an academic cooperation agreement to strengthen the training of medical professionals, share resources for research and promote interaction of students and teachers through internships and conferences.

Through the agreement, signed by the general director of CEDIMAT, Milagros Ureña, and by Miguel J. Escala, rector of INTEC, INTEC students are integrated into internships and rotations in the center's high-tech facilities in all medical areas of reciprocal interest of the institutions. At present some 150 students of the INTEC rotate every year by CEDIMAT.

It also establishes that part of the professional staff of CEDIMAT is integrated as a professor assigned to INTEC in a program of lectures and a program of transmission of procedures by telemedicine, which has already begun with projections of cardiovascular surgeries and lectures for students.

The university supports specialized medical residences of CEDIMAT, being the first in Critical Medicine and Bariatric Surgery.

The Dr. Juan Manuel Taveras Library, of CEDIMAT and the Emilio Rodríguez Demorizi Library, of the INTEC, will provide resources and consultancies in consultations to both students and researchers to promote joint medical-scientific studies.

Milagros Ureña de Báez, general director of CEDIMAT, explained that the agreement favors two pillars of development: education and health through education and medical updating between two institutions that value excellence and quality service.

Miguel Escala said that this alliance opens doors for students and will allow to train better professionals up to date in the state of the art of medicine, which will have a positive impact on the quality of health services in the country.

The agreement will be valid for five years and will be coordinated by doctors Eddy Pérez Then, director of the Knowledge Management Department of CEDIMAT, and Raymundo Jiménez, dean of Health Sciences of INTEC.

During the signing were present Pedro Ureña, Regent of INTEC and Director of the Cardiology Area of ​​CEDIMAT, Julio Sánchez, Vice-Rector of Research and Liaison, as well as directors of medical areas of CEDIMAT, such as doctors Luis Betances, José Yunén, Eduardo Yermenos, Freddy Wood, Luis Betances, Fabricio González and Jennifer Toribio. Also Gloria Muñiz, Planning and Development Manager and María De la Rosa, of the Infectology Committee.

On the part of INTEC, doctors Fernando Santamaría, deputy deputy of Health Sciences, Seferino Brache, coordinator of Surgery, Lucero Arboleda, director of the Library Emilio Rodríguez Demorizi and Angelica Adrián, director of Interinstitutional Relations attended.
