INTEC STEM presents achievements during Latin American STEM education meeting in Peru
The initiative was selected from more than 150 projects in the region to be part of the STEM+ Innovation Expo, one of the main spaces for exchanging experiences in STEM education in Latin America.
SANTO DOMINGO. - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), through its INTEC STEM initiative, participated in the V Meeting of the Latin American STEM Network, held from July 20 to 24 in Lima, Peru, where its project was selected to be presented at the STEM+ Innovation Expo, a recognition that highlights the impact and quality of the initiatives promoted by the university in favor of education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
INTEC's proposal was chosen from more than 150 initiatives from different Latin American countries, establishing itself as one of the most relevant experiences exhibited during this educational innovation space that brought together projects with high-impact results in STEM training.
The INTEC delegation was headed by its Rector, Arturo Del Villar, and by Anileydis Colón, coordinator of STEM Education Promotion, who participated in an academic agenda that included keynote lectures, discussion panels, dialogue tables, specialized workshops and spaces for exchanging experiences with representatives of universities, organizations and leaders of the STEM ecosystem in the region.
The rector of INTEC valued the selection of the initiative as a recognition of the impact achieved and the institutional commitment to educational transformation.
“INTEC STEM’s selection from among more than 150 initiatives in Latin America confirms that when education connects knowledge with experimentation, innovation, and real-world societal challenges, it can open new opportunities. For INTEC, this experience reinforces our efforts to bring science and technology closer to young people, strengthen STEM vocations, and contribute, through regional collaboration, to a more future-oriented education,” stated Del Villar.
Meanwhile, Anileydis Colón highlighted the impact of the university initiative on thousands of pre-university students, saying, “We have witnessed the importance of our young people learning about the opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, awakening new possibilities for their future and for the future of our country.”
Through the “INTEC STEM Route” initiative, the university has reached 10,026 pre-university students. Since the project's formal launch in 2024, 122 educational experiences have been coordinated, including visits, workshops, fairs, and camps designed to introduce young people to science and technology in a hands-on way.
During the meeting, held at the Central Campus of the Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University in Peru, participants addressed trends, challenges and opportunities to strengthen STEM education in Latin America, promoting collaboration between institutions committed to training new generations capable of responding to the scientific, technological and social challenges of the present and the future.
INTEC's participation in this international setting positions the university as a regional leader in promoting innovative methodologies for teaching science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, as well as in developing initiatives that contribute to transforming education from an interdisciplinary and inclusive approach.
About the 5th Meeting of the Latin American STEM Network
The 5th Meeting of the Latin American STEM Network brought together representatives from academic institutions, international organizations, civil society organizations and specialists from various countries, becoming a space to share good practices, generate strategic alliances and showcase projects that promote educational innovation in the region.
These meetings have been held annually since 2021, which has allowed progress as an ecosystem of social and educational innovation based on collaboration and shared goals.
Since the first Meeting in Bogotá in 2021, the Meetings have been held throughout the region. Colombia, Mexico, Chile, and now Peru have hosted them. At each event, the host country embraces the Network's purpose, shares its innovations, and focuses on promoting STEM+ education. The Meeting allows the Network's regional character to coexist with the local context. This year's theme was "Collaborating to Transform: Together for Sustainable Communities and Territories."
