INTEC re-elected as a member of the plenary session of the Economic and Social Council
SANTO DOMINGO. - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) was re-elected as a member of the Plenary Session of the Economic and Social Council (CES), as a representative of the Social Sector on Health and Social Protection issues for a new four-year term.
This was decided by the Assembly of Organizations and Institutions of the Social Sector, convened by the CES, in accordance with Law 142-15 and the CES Plenary Election Regulations (Decree 291-20).
The CES, chaired by Rafael Toribio, former rector of INTEC, is a constitutional advisory and consultation body whose mission is to make proposals and build consensus on relevant issues related to the country's economic and social development, submitted to it by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, or on its own initiative.
The CES Plenary is composed of equal representatives from the social, business, union, and professional sectors. Members are elected by sectoral plenary sessions of organizations and institutions that have expressed interest and meet the regulatory requirements.
The CES Social Sector is comprised of community, religious, academic, people with disabilities, health and social protection, environmental, and other subsectors. On this occasion, the electoral assembly was attended by 42 institutions and organizations representing the social sector.
INTEC has been a member of the CES Plenary as a representative of the Social Sector, Health Subsector and Social Protection since 2020, and has actively participated in its various commissions and dialogue scenarios.
Pedro Castellanos, professor and researcher in the Health Sciences Department and current representative of the university before that organization, representing Rector Julio Sanchez Mariñez, expressed his gratitude for the trust that social sectors have placed in INTEC's scientific and technical capabilities and its commitment to the country's economic and social development. "We are committed to continuing to contribute to strengthening spaces for dialogue, the democratic and human rights-based state, and efforts to build active and participatory citizenship," he expressed.
Rafael Toribio assumed the presidency of the CES, replacing Monsignor Agripino Núñez Collado, who had held the position since 2005. The CES, elevated to the level of a constitutional body by the 2010 reform, has the mission of building and permanently strengthening social peace through frank, open, and participatory dialogue.
