INTEC recognizes research professors of 2023


Teachers Ulises Jauregui-Haza, from the Area of ​​Basic and Environmental Sciences, and Alexander Vallejo-Díaz, from the Area of ​​Engineering, were recognized during an event held during Science Week

SANTO DOMINGO. – The doctors Ulises Jauregui-Haza, research professor in the Area of ​​Basic and Environmental Sciences of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo, and Alexander Vallejo-Diaz, of the Engineering Area, were recognized as researchers of the year 2023 during the closing of the Fifth Science Week held by the university.  

Jauregui Haza He is a chemical engineer and holds a Master of Science from the Moscow Institute of Chemical Technology DI Mendeleiev (Russia), and a PhD in Technical and Environmental Sciences from Toulouse (France). Currently, he is a professor-researcher and coordinator of the Sargassum and Advanced Water Treatment Technologies research groups at the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC).

With 37 years of experience, he has worked in the analysis and scaling of chemical-technological and environmental processes in the pharmaceutical industry, and applications of nuclear sciences to health and the environment. He has participated in more than 80 research projects and directed more than 30.

He has been a university professor since 1989, and has taught undergraduate and graduate courses, and has been the tutor of 21 master's theses and 10 doctoral theses. He has been a member and president of evaluation committees for undergraduate, master's and doctoral theses. He has been a visiting professor at more than 20 universities in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Spain, France, Switzerland and Belgium. He is the author of 221 articles in specialized scientific journals, with an h-index of 24, and has presented scientific papers at more than 150 events. 

While Alexander Vallejo Díaz is a Mechanical Engineer, Master in Renewable Energy Technology, and PhD in Energy Management for Sustainable Development, from the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo DomingoHe has more than 14 years of experience in the Dominican electricity sector, and 15 years in higher education institutions, in teaching, administrative and research roles. He has 10 indexed scientific articles and 19 verified peer reviews from Web of Science, and more than 14 publications in international conferences. He has an h-index of 4 and 63 citations in his publications. He has been an advisor for four undergraduate and master's theses on topics related to renewable energy and sustainability.

The Researcher Award ceremony was chaired by Rosario Aróstegui, Vice-Rector for Research and Outreach at INTEC, and Carlos Sanlley, Director of Research. In her speech, Aróstegui congratulated the recognized professors and advocated for more women in science and technology in the Dominican Republic, while Sanlley presented the new web portal of the Research Department.

Science Week 2024

During the fifth edition of Science Week 2024, activities, panels and conferences focused on research were held. Among those presented by INTEC professors was “Seismic Risk in Populations of the Dominican Republic”, by Dr. Claudia Germoso. Also, the presentation of INTEC Academic Journal Editions.

Interactive dynamics in the university laboratories were also carried out, as well as the Stargazing Night, organized by the Dominican Astronomical Society. Lectures on different topics related to artificial intelligence and environmental sustainability were part of the extensive program available throughout the week.
