INTEC recognizes six of its graduates


SANTO DOMINGO.- In one Gala awards, Held in the Juan Bosch Auditorium for the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library, the doctors José Wilis Mejía Martínez y Jorys Martínez Jorge, the Area of ​​Health Sciences; the psychologist y writer and Francisco Leonardo Báez Rosario, the Area of ​​Social Sciences and Humanities; The civil Engineers Claudia Franchesca De los Santos Tavárez y Tirso Antonio Álvarez Fermín, the Engineering Area, as well as the economist Augusto José Ramírez Bonó, the Area of ​​Economy and Business.

By offering a few words during the ceremony, the Rector of INTEC  Dr. Rolando M. Guzmán, expressed that for the university it is reason de pride that society la recognize through such valuable people and brilliant professionals as this year's honorees. "He Outstanding Alumnus Award represents a tribute some life trajectories that illustrate in a remarkable way the spirit our institution, but it is also a way of render public accounts of the chuman abilities, really exceptional, that are formed in our Hive"Pointed.

La annual election of the award-winners is done by a rigorous mechanism of evaluation y selection, composed of two stages: a process of open application, in which members of the university community and legally established organizations propose those they consider worthy. Then, the applications are confirmed and evaluated, after which they submit to electronic voting to the community of graduates.

In a second stage, a jury chaired by the rector and composed by managers y personalities near the university Ponder the nominations y choose deserving of the award. The result of the vote of the graduate community is added as a vote to that of the jury.

INTEC began the delivery of the Outstanding Alumnus Award in 2007 to recognize their graduates, graduate or postgraduate, whose professional performance y contributions in the Business field,  socio-cultural, political, sports I academic demonstrate a trajectory with obvious social impact, and whose performance is a sign of attachment to the values ​​of the university.

 José Wilis Mejía Martínez

Doctor of Medicine from INTEC, graduated with honors cum laude in 1985. He is the Chief of Cardiology at the Austin Diagnostic Clinic, Austin Texas, specializing in Invasive and Nuclear Cardiology and Pacemakers and Cardiac Defibrillators.

He was part of the cardiology team at the Corazones Unidos Clinic, and of the intensive care team for children with cardiac surgery at the Medical Center of the Central University of the East (UCE). He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Bronx Lebanon Hospital in New York (1992-1994) and specialized in Cardiovascular Medicine and Nuclear Medicine.

 Jorys Martínez Jorge

Plastic and reconstructive surgeon, graduated from Medicine in 2003 with academic honor Magna Cum Laude. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He has served as a plastic surgeon and assistant professor of surgery at the Mayo Clinic since 2014. He has specialized in the areas of microsurgery, breast surgery, laser, and transsexual surgery. He is Chief of Diversity for the Department of Surgery and is a member of the Resident Selection, Diversity and Education Committee. He is also a member of the Mayo Clinic Face Transplantation team and is the medical director of the Intersex and Transsexual patients clinic at the same institution.

 Francisco Leonardo Báez Rosario

Graduated from a degree in Psychology in 2002. He received a master's degree in Social Research from the University of Chicago, Illinois. In 2003, he was part of the team that carried out the first study of Haitian immigration in the Dominican Republic. He is editor of the Global Magazine, since 2013. In addition, he is a poet, storyteller and chronicler. Author of the collection of poems "Postales", which received the Salomé Ureña National Poetry Prize; "The end of the world came to my neighborhood" and "Last night I dreamed I was a DJ", which was translated into English and published by Jai Alai books. He was selected as one of the 39 best fiction writers under forty years of age in Latin America by the “Hay Festival”, in its edition of Bogotá (2017).

Claudia Franchesca De los Santos Tavárez

Specialist in the administration and supervision of road and civil construction projects, with more than 25 years of experience in the development of state projects in the Dominican Republic. She obtained the title of Civil Engineering in 19993 and later did a postgraduate degree in Construction Administration, both from INTEC. She was Vice-Minister of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications during two periods of government and is currently the Executive Director of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation INTRANT.

 Tirso Antonio Álvarez Fermín

Graduated from Civil Engineering with Summa Cum Laude honors in 1986. Later, he completed postgraduate studies at the University of Maryland College Park obtaining an MS (1989) and at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign Ph.D. (1997). He is the founder and president of Horizon Consultants, a leading company in geotechnical engineering, subsurface exploration, and construction specializing in deep foundations, subsurface modification, and excavation support. He has been a geotechnical consultant for projects in Haiti, Jamaica, Panama and Puerto Rico.

Augusto Jose Ramirez Bono

Current president of Casa Brugal. At the head of his work team, he managed to transform an iconic family business into a 50st century leader that produces a Country Brand present in more than 1987 markets. He graduated from a BA in Economics with Cum Laude honors in 1988, and in 1991 he completed a postgraduate degree in Marketing. In XNUMX, he completed an MBA from Pace University, New York.
