INTEC receives an award for Academic Innovation at the Proindustria awards ceremony.


This is the third consecutive year that the university has received the Recognition for Academic Innovation, for its outstanding contributions to the industry in the fields of training and research

SANTO DOMINGO. - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) received the award for Academic Innovation during the third edition of the “Recognition of Industrial Manufacturing Innovation 2025,” organized by the Center for Industrial Development and Competitiveness (Proindustria).

The award highlights INTEC's commitment to applied research and its close ties to the productive sector, providing knowledge and solutions that drive the country's competitiveness and sustainable development through academic projects such as Learning Factory and Design with Industry.

The ceremony brought together business leaders, government representatives, and academics, who celebrated the Dominican industry's advances in innovation. The university's academic vice-rector, Arturo Del Villar, received the award during the ceremony.

This is the third consecutive year that INTEC has received the award for Academic Innovation, and with the applied research process, the university is a strategic player in building a national innovation ecosystem, where scientific and technological research translates into tangible contributions for industry and society.

The Academic Innovation Award recognized the various applied investments made by the university, generating knowledge for the benefit of productive sectors and on issues of national interest; the "Design with Industry" program, a flagship initiative of the university through which Industrial Design students develop tangible solutions to challenges facing the productive system; and the Learning Factory, a pioneering initiative in which students work hand in hand with companies to find creative solutions to the problems they face.

Rafael Cruz Rodríguez, director of Proindustria, emphasized that innovation is "the driving force for transforming challenges and consolidating national industry," while reaffirming the institution's commitment to continue promoting the emergence of new ideas and the adoption of technologies in the productive sector.

For his part, Eddy Olivares, Minister of Labor, emphasized the importance of initiatives like this award to strengthen the Dominican labor market. "Formality is the first step toward labor dignity, and innovation generates sustainable jobs by creating added value," he said.

In this edition, 23 companies were recognized in various categories, including product, process, and marketing innovation, as well as the Excellence in Industrial Innovation Award for companies of different sizes. Distinctions were also given to the Free Trade Zones managed by Proindustria and to the financial support of banking institutions such as Banco Popular, Banco BHD, and Banco de Reservas.
