INTEC will carry out hackathon to help improve the quality of life in Dominican cities


SANTO DOMINGO. - With the target to search solutions at main problems that face Destinations en Dominican Republic, Laboratory of Innovation and Territorial Intelligence for Dominican Cities (RD-LAB), together with the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (CEI-INTEC), will carry out the "Hackhaton RDLAB-Smart Cities".

This initiative, in which you can participate students, professionals o freelancers, Dominicans or other member countries of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), is a space for the collaborative generation of innovative ideas and with business potential, to face the challenges of the Destinations using the digital technology.

Prior to the realization of the Hackathon, a ideatón, Saturday May 4, 8: 30 in the morning a 4: 30 in the afternoon in the Julio Ravelo Room for the Emilio Rodríguez Demorizi Library of INTEC. In the ideatón, those interested in participating can concretize their idea or create their team to participate in the Hackathon that will be made the days And May 18 19, starting at 8: 00 in the morning in the Activities Room of the Health Sciences Building Ana Mercedes Henríquez of the University.

The teacher Indhira De Jesus, coordinator of the RD-LAB, explained that in the Hackaton there will be two categories de attendees: The Beginners, which are those who have an idea, a team, or simply wish to contribute, and advanced which are those who already have an idea, team and a model or business plan.

He pointed out that you can participate with a equipment de three a five people, but that "if you are interested and you do not have a team you can register, in the ideaton in which team-building dynamics will take place". All those interested in participating must register by filling out a form that is in  https://emprende.intec.edu.do/hackathon-rd-lab, and specified that each person can belong to only one team and that within each group there must be at least one person of legal age.

The winning proposals will be supported in their incubation process and may opt for seed funds within the framework of the INTEC-BID-LAB project. Eight teams will be selected in the category of beginners who will be awarded scholarships to the INTEC-Emprende pre-incubation process (approximately 60 hours de training y mentoring during 12 weeks). Two will also be chosen in the advanced category who will be accompanied in the due diligence process.

After these processes, the teams will present their project to a panel of investors and opt for seed funds Up to US$10,000 By project. In addition, there will be prizes in cash and in kind for the first three places in each category.

The Hackathon will address the main challenges of Dominican cities, such as mobility, public services (water supply, electricity ...); fullfilment of security requirements y civic education, land use, planning y governance of public space y the environment y climate change; seeking innovative and data-driven solutions that have business potential.
