INTEC publishes "En nombre del recuerdo", by Veloz Maggiolo


Santo Domingo. The Editorial Seal of Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) published In the name of memory, a compilation of 101 essays by Marcio Veloz Maggiolo, intellectual and Dominican humanist of prolific trajectory.

The work is an accurate collection of short essays and meditations on literature, archeology, folklore, the collective imagination and the ghosts of memory. The essays with a great value from the point of view of cultural anthropology, with very diverse approaches.

Poet, novelist, essayist, short story writer, playwright and critic, Veloz Maggiolo, the new literary installment of the current director of the History Department of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), is a testimony of the author's proven versatility, a palette of multi-thematic essays for the most varied tastes.

"This is not just any publication, it is a recognition of an intellectual of universal dimensions, a man who has bet on his country and rejected offers from other geographies where improvisation and immediacy are not the norms," ​​says the INTEC professor Manuel Matos Diedoné in the prologue of the book.

During the event, held in the Sala Julio Ravelo of INTEC, students participated in various moments of the subject Communication in Spanish Language I, taught by Matos Diedoné, as part of a project that uses pedagogical strategies and experiences to promote reading and knowledge of socio-political issues of the country.

For the Editorial Seal of INTEC, In the name of the memory has the potential to become a reference of publications on Dominican culture and is a contribution in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities.

With this book closes a cycle of publications during August, where three books were presented, each from a different academic area. A hundred years of teaching Spanish in the Dominican Republic, also from the Area of ​​Social Sciences and Humanities and Childhood Hydrocephalus Management, of the Health Sciences Area, were published and put into circulation.

In the publication of the book In the name of memory, Julio Sánchez Maríñez, Vice-Rector of Research and Liaison, Migdalia Martínez, Dean of Basic and Environmental Sciences, Professor Diedoné, Lucero Arboleda, Director of the Library Emilio Rodríguez Demorizi and Ramón Rosario, participated. A life in the letters
Marcio Veloz Maggiolo was born in 1936 in Villa Francisca. He has a degree in philosophy, an anthropologist and a writer. In the name of remembrance, it is a bunch of essays where the personal appears with revealing data of his humanity. His literary work begins in the 1950-1960 decade and his clear, precise and biting style, at times humorous, has earned him national and international awards, such as the William Faulkner Foundation Prize, National Poetry Prize at 1961 and National Novel Prize in 1962, 1981 and 1992.

Also at 1981 he received the National Short Story Award. In 1996 he won the National Prize for Literature, sponsored by the Corripio Foundation and the Dominican State. His works have been translated into German, English, Italian and French.
