INTEC participates in the VII International Interuniversity Forum on Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management in Paraguay

SANTO DOMINGO. The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) participated in the prestigious VII International Interuniversity Forum on Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management y VII International Seminar on GIRD in Higher Education, celebrated in the Columbia University of Paraguay, in Asunción.
The activity brought together leading experts from Latin America and the Caribbean to discuss lessons learned and advances in disaster risk management in the region.
The event was organized under the motto “20 years since August 1, 2004 of Ycuá Bolaños: Lessons learned in comprehensive disaster risk management”, in commemoration of one of the most tragic disasters in the recent history of Paraguay. The participation of INTEC, through its Director of Operations and Logistics, Eliana García and Head of Disaster Risk Management, Pamela Michel, highlights the institution's commitment to strengthening its institutional response capabilities.
García had an outstanding intervention at the discussion table "Building resilient futures: Good preparedness practices for emergency response in universities", in which he shared the university's experiences in integrating Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management (GIRD) in higher education.
As part of the program, INTEC participated in the meeting of rectors assigned to the Latin American Network of Higher Education Institutions committed to Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management (RiesGIRD/LAC), in which he was selected the new president of the Network. Additionally, the universities of Peru joined together collegially, and the next two venues for the event were chosen.
In addition, INTEC strengthened cooperation ties with representatives of the United States Agency for International Development from the Regional Disaster Assistance Program (USAID/BHA), in order to strengthen the university's capabilities to collaborate on future management projects. risk and emergency response, reinforcing its role as a leader in the region.
The purpose of the Forum is to understand the leading role of Higher Education Institutions in Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management and to offer a space for socialization of actions and experiences carried out on the topic of GIRD by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and organizations related to education in Paraguay and Latin America and the challenges for the future.
