INTEC participates in the LATINCOM 2021 Congress of the IEEE Institute


SANTO DOMINGO. The rector of Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Julio Sánchez Maríñez, called on governments and industries to dedicate greater resources to take advantage of the results of research carried out in universities, when he delivered the opening remarks at the Latin American Communications Conference (LATINCOM) 2021 , from the prestigious Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).

Sánchez Maríñez affirmed that the amount of resources dedicated to research and scientific publications reached in Latin America on telecommunications issues are below that of other regions. "The capacity to conduct research is low in developing countries," he said.

The opening ceremony also included the participation of the president of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL), Nelson Arroyo, who valued the importance of LATINCOM being held in Santo Domingo. Also, by the Observatory coordinator (ONTIC-RD) and INTEC professor, Manuel Mendoza, who chaired the Organizing Committee of the international event together with Fabrizio Granelli, professor of the Department of Engineering and Information Science of the University of Tento, Italy.

The activity, which took place from November 17 to 19, featured conferences by international experts and technical workshops on the future of telecommunications, immersive communication, networks, information security, networks, smart cities, internet of things, communication satellite, air and vehicle, among others.

In addition, specialists such as Filip De Turck, from the University of Ghent, Belgium; Chadi Assi, from Concordia University, Canada; Falko Dressler, TU Berlin, Germany; Miguel Dajer, from Futurewei Technologies, United States; Jeffrey Andrews, from the University of Texas, United States; and Admela Jukan, TU Braunschweig, from Germany.

LATINCOM is the most important conference in communications that takes place in all of Latin America, it is organized annually and for the first time had Santo Domingo as its headquarters. It has been carried out in Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Guatemala, Chile and Ecuador. The IEEE is the largest society of technical professionals in the world, with more than 400,000 members in 150 countries.
