INTEC, MICM and ADOZONA will create a community of professionals specialized in semiconductors together with experts from Silicon Valley
INTEC engineering students will be trained by experts from Synopsys, a leading company in the development of software for complex integrated circuits
SANTO DOMINGO. The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM) and the Dominican Association of Free Zones (ADOZONA) is developing the first intensive course on digital integrated circuit design, with the aim of creating a community of professionals focused on the development of the microelectronics industry in the country.
The program is aimed at 25 students of Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics and Electronics and Communications from INTEC, who will be trained by experts from Synopsys, a leading company in the development of specialized software for complex integrated circuits, based in Silicon Valley, United States. It will take place from November 11 to 15 on the university campus.
During the opening ceremony of the training, Julio Sánchez Maríñez, rector of INTEC, thanked the minister for the university's openness to the development of professionals who will drive the strategy that will attract part of the semiconductor value chain to the country.
“We do this even more because we are committed to aligning ourselves with all projects that are inclusive, competitive and sustainable development for the country, and one of them is to increase the technological content of the investments we have,” he said.
“Our university celebrates the opportunity to work hand in hand with the State and contribute to the construction of a community of professionals specialized in microelectronics and semiconductors to respond to the priority orientation of the Government. This allows us to fulfill our institutional strategy of being strategic allies of the productive and governmental sectors in the generation of solutions,” said the Academic Vice-Rector of INTEC, Arturo Del Villar.
In this regard, Victor Bisonó, Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, stated that “attracting and developing the semiconductor industry is a strategic priority for the Dominican Republic and Decree 324-24 encourages us to promote the training of a new generation of professionals who are capable of contributing to this priority and to the positioning of our country as a regional leader in this important industry.”
Likewise, Luis José Bonilla, president of ADOZONA, said that “this initiative is a crucial step to train the professionals who will drive the semiconductor industry in the Dominican Republic. At ADOZONA, we are not only committed to developing an ecosystem to attract investment, but also to preparing new generations to lead the technological challenges of the future and thus position the country as a benchmark in the electronic device industry in the region.”
The training initiative is part of the effort by INTEC, MICM and ADOZONA to provide the country with the human resources necessary for the development of the semiconductor industry, declared a high national priority by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, last June.
As part of the intensive workshop, which will last a total of 37 hours, participants will learn about Introduction to Digital Design Flow, CMOS Fundamentals, Introduction to IC Manufacturing, Digital Circuit Simulation with VCS, Digital Circuit Synthesis, among other content. In addition, they will participate in four labs on RTL Writing with Verilog, Digital Circuit Simulation using Synopsys' VERDI, Digital Circuit Synthesis using Synopsys' DC, and Digital Circuit Place and Route using Synopsys' ICCII.
The teaching methodology will consist of master classes, aimed at presenting the design flow in microelectronics, accompanied by incremental laboratories, in which the information from the theoretical sessions is supported in a practical way.
