INTEC mourns the passing of renowned Dr. Héctor Elías Rosario Cáceres
The obstetrician-gynecologist and fertility expert was the first professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the INTEC School of Medicine, and his passing is a loss for the INTEC community, particularly for the generations of graduates he trained.
SANTO DOMINGO. The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) expressed its sorrow at the passing of the renowned obstetrician-gynecologist Hector Elias Rosario Caceres, who passed away on January 8th after suffering health problems.
Rosario Cáceres was the founder of the maternity hospital of Luis Eduardo Aybar HospitalA pioneer in human reproduction in the country, he established the Dominican Society of Human Reproduction and founded the first Fertility and Human Reproduction Center. He is considered one of the pillars of contemporary medicine, having led the medical team that achieved the first birth of a test-tube baby, conceived through in-vitro fertilization.
In 1992 he was declared “Latin American Master of Obstetrics and Gynecology”, proposed by the Dominican Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology and granted by the Latin American Federation of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FLASOG). He was also recognized in 2020 as a Master of Medicine by the Dominican Medical Association (CMD).
At INTEC, he was the first teacher of the gynecology and obstetrics chair, standing out as a teacher of generations.
“An enthusiastic, dedicated, committed professor with exquisite academic discourse...without a doubt, Professor Elías Rosario (as we called him) is one of the emblematic, historic, transcendent teachers of our university,” said endocrinologist Yulino Castillo, a distinguished graduate of INTEC and also honored as a Master of Medicine by the CMD, referring to one of his former teachers.
The funeral services for Rosario Cáceres will begin this Friday, January 9, starting at 3:00 pm, at the Blandino Funeral Home on Abraham Lincoln Avenue, and her remains will be buried on Saturday the 10th, starting at 12:00 pm in the cemetery on Máximo Gómez Avenue.
