INTEC regrets the death of economist Ramón Pérez Minaya
SANTO DOMINGO. - Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) expressed its deep regret for the death of the economist Ramón Pérez Minaya, a prominent Dominican intellectual with a strong public and academic vocation, whose career was closely linked to that university from its early years.
His relationship with INTEC dates back to the 1970s, when he served as Executive Director and Secretary of the Technical Assistance Center (CEAT)Later, he became part of the Board of Regents of the university, the governing body and legal representation of INTEC and the legal administrator of its assets, with a particularly significant participation among 1976 and 1994, a period in which he was the ideologist of the INTEC Program with Outstanding Students (PIES), an initiative that, to date, has benefited more than 3,000 talented young people from all over the country. He later returned to the Board for a second term, between 2002 and 2011.
During the 80s, Pérez Minaya directed the University Modernization Project, financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which contributed to the institutional strengthening of INTEC and the development of its vision of academic excellence and social commitment.
His contribution to the country transcended the university environment. In the public administration, held positions of great responsibility such as technical deputy manager of the Central Bank, Technical Undersecretary of the Presidency y Director of the National Planning Office (ONAPLAN)He also collaborated with technical teams at the then Ministry of Economy in developing important bilateral cooperation agendas.
In the plane academic, was a professor at INTEC and the Pontifical Catholic Mother and Teacher University (PUCMM). He earned a master's degree from the University of Río Piedras (Puerto Rico) and was the author of numerous publications that shaped national economic thought, including Development and the neoliberal option (INTEC, 1994), as well as contributions in collective works such as Dominican Economy 1975 (Academy of Sciences, 1976) and The Dominican Republic facing economic integration.
His intellectual legacy is also reflected in texts on public policy and planning, such as Structural reforms of an economic and social nature, prior to or simultaneous with the integration process (PUCMM, 1967), in addition to writing the prologue to technical works such as Administrative planning.
INTEC gratefully acknowledged the invaluable contribution of the Professor and economist Ramón Pérez Minaya to the construction of institutional history and Dominican economic thought. The institution also expressed its condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends, appreciating his life dedicated to public service, teaching, and national development.
