Vice President Raquel Peña cut the ribbon at the exhibition stands for projects at the fair, which takes place from November 6 to 8 on the university campus.
SANTO DOMINGO. - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo inaugurated the twelfth edition of its technology fair Intecnología 2024, a biennial event that serves as a stage for teachers, students, graduates and other allies to showcase their technological projects, in a space of connection with companies and experts from various sectors.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Vice President of the Republic and President of the Education Cabinet, Raquel Peña, who predicted that young people will lead the Dominican Republic into a new era of development, marked by innovation and a deep commitment to the common good.
“Making the Dominican Republic an increasingly competitive, sustainable and future-ready country. This is the spirit of Intecnologia, a technology fair that in this edition is dedicated to exploring the power of artificial intelligence and sustainability as drivers of change and development,” said the vice president before cutting the ribbon of this exhibition.
INTEC Rector Julio Sánchez Maríñez said that Intecnologia is a celebration of scientific activity, technological activity, but above all of projects that INTEC professors and students develop on various topics.
“We dream of making INTEC a center of innovation and development at the service of all Dominican society, and these projects by students associated with companies tell us that, if we have been able to do so with student and professor projects, we can contribute to the innovation and development that our country so badly needs to remain inclusive, competitive and sustainable,” said Sánchez Maríñez when addressing the audience.
Rosario Aróstegui, Vice-Rector for Research and Outreach at INTEC, also highlighted that the university is committed to these types of events because they are essential for the training of its students while strengthening the relationship between academia and the productive reality.

Among the student projects featured in the fair, Industrial Design students are presenting a device to support the elderly; a portable cooling device, furniture made from reused packing tape, reusable markers and a device that generates lighting through wind.
In a hybrid meeting, both in person and virtually, the seminar “Franco-Dominican academic and scientific cooperation” was held, in which the results of this synergy between INTEC and the universities of the Francophone Caribbean were presented with the support of the French Embassy in the Dominican Republic to seek sustainable solutions to manage and take advantage of the sargassum that reaches this region.
The Health Sciences Area will present a software for predicting dengue outbreaks developed by Rainier Mallol, a Dominican computer engineer, entrepreneur and researcher who has gained international recognition for his contributions to predicting outbreaks of influenza, dengue, zika and chikungunya.
Ignacio Morgado will also give the keynote lecture “Neuroscience of Virtual and Augmented Reality”, as part of the Annual Psychology Congress (CAPSI 2024).
