INTEC will teach courses endorsed by ITLS and AHA through the Medical Simulations Laboratory
Santo Domingo. El Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) will teach 2013 a series of courses and diplomas aimed at professionals and students of Medicine and related professions, through the Laboratory of Medical Simulations (SimLab-INTEC), a center equipped with technology that uses simulation as a teaching strategy.
The Basic Life Support (BLS) courses, endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA), will be taught at the 20, 21 and 22 in February. In March, the Basic Trauma Life Support Course will be taught, with two years of International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification, and the Basic Suture Course. In April there will be a Medical Semiology Workshop.
The ITLS is an international institution of American origin, based in Illinois, which is dedicated to the management and standardized and protocolized approach of the trauma patient. The AHA is dedicated to promoting the construction of healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and strokes.
The INTLa SimLab, which is part of the Health Sciences Area, is an authorized training center for the International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) and as of February, 2013 will be from the American Heart Association (AHA). It is under the coordination of Dr. Pablo Smester, specialist in emergency and disaster medicine.
The courses are taught to interested parties, but specialized training is also given to hospital staff.

What is SimLab?
The SimLab is set as a classroom / hospital room, where the participants immerse themselves in the experience of an emergency-intensive supported by audiovisual feedback of cases, softwares and instructional videos to rehearse how to handle critical situations from the first quarters of the race.
Two simulated patients, five breasts of CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), simulators of arms and hands for venoclysis, allow to acquire skills and competences to identify physiological and pathological signs, channel, intubate and practice emergency intervention without any risk for people or for students themselves.
The laboratory is equipped for simulation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, critical or trauma patient management, endotracheal intubation and technical competences (venous puncture, arterial puncture, placement of intravenous lines, catheters or venoclysis, vaginal and rectal tact, episorrhaphy, lumbar puncture, otoscopy, ophthalmoscopy, semiology, etc.).
