INTEC graduates 807 new professionals


SANTO DOMINGO. As part of the commemorative activities of the 44 anniversary of its foundation, Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) delivered to the country 807 new professionals of degree and postgraduate during its fifty-third ordinary graduation ceremony.

At the event, held at the Sansoucí Terminal, they received their professional degrees 502 women and 305 men, of which 416 (51.5%) belong to the level of postgraduate and the rest 391 (48.5%) a degree. With the new professionals, INTEC reaches the 29,686 titles issued (degree and postgraduate) since its foundation the 9 of October of 1972. 

By offering some opening words, the Rector of INTEC Rolando M. Guzmán exhorted new professionals to consider ways to contribute to improving conditions de Life other Dominicans, considering that the country is overwhelmed by great needs and inequalities.

“Remember that the intetian spirit is not only distinguished by its scientific or technical capacities, but also by solidarity and commitment. In that sense, you have a great share of responsibility, as professionals and as citizens, ”said Guzmán.

While the order speech he was in charge of the journalist Costa Rican Glenda Umaña, recognized for her work of more than two decades on the international channel CNN En Español. Umaña urged the new professionals of INTEC acBuild a leadership based on humility and solidarity, "Have the ability to work as a team, be open, learn to yield and also say no," he told them.

The prominent communicator participated in the design of the new degree in Digital Media and Social Communication offered by INTEC, and is part of the group of teachers who will be teaching the program.

The ceremony

The graduating Hugo Felipe Bueno Abate, of the career of Medicine, was in charge of swearing of the new professionals, while the young John Paul Guzmán Díaz, of the career of Industrial engineerHe pronounced the speech on behalf of the promotion. Both are scholars of the INTEC Program with Outstanding Students (PIES) and obtained the highest rates of their careers.

Within the promotion, the first group of six graduates of the INTEC Presidential Scholarship, which was initiated by the President of the Republic Danilo Medina in August of the 2013. The novel program allowed 32 outstanding students, one for each province of the country, to study the career of their preference in the INTEC, with full coverage of enrollment, student residence and monthly expenses for maintenance.

Additionally, 25 Fellows of the PIES received their professional degrees, 20 of them with academic honors: twelve (12) Summa Cum Laude, five (5) Magna Cum Laude and three (3) Cum Laude. Also, four (4) new graduates of the PIES group obtained the highest index of their respective careers.

When observing the division of graduates by areas, 271 belong to the Engineering Area; 176 to the Business Area; 250 to the Area of ​​Health Sciences; 102 to the Area of ​​Social Sciences and Humanities and 8 to the Area of ​​Basic and Environmental Sciences.

Within the total of graduates, 106 obtained academic honors. Of these, 38 reached the title with honor Cum Laude; 37 Magna Cum Laude and 31 the highest honors of Summa Cum Laude.
