INTEC strengthens collaboration ties with the University of Concepción in Chile


Both institutions have in common their private origin of public service and a strong focus on innovation in various areas of knowledge.

Chile. — Representatives of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) made a visit to the central campus of the Universidad de Concepción (UdeC) in Chile, with the purpose of Strengthening academic ties and explore new opportunities for collaboration in strategic areas of research, innovation y knowledge transfer.

The INTEC delegation was headed by the Vice-Rector for Research and Engagement, Rosario Arostegui, as well as the director of research, Carlos Sanlley PaganThe day began with a protocol meeting with the Vice-rector for Research and Development at UdeC, doctor Andrea Rodriguez Tastets, and the doctor Ronald Mennickent CidDuring the meeting, representatives discussed joint initiatives to promote applied research and entrepreneurship.

The itinerary included visits to prominent academic and scientific departments of the UdeC, such as IncubaUdeC, the Intellectual Property Unit and the Transfer and Licensing Office, all part of the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Development (VRID). Visitors also had the opportunity to see innovative facilities, including the 'Igor Wilkomirsky' pilot copper production plant, the Biotechnology Center, the Advanced Microscopy Center and the Center for Industry 4.0.

During this visit, Aróstegui highlighted INTEC's commitment to innovation and continuous improvement: “As a university, our purpose is to continue developing initiatives that impact not only the academic field, but also the communities we serve. The University of Concepción is a benchmark with exemplary cases of innovation and knowledge transfer, which has inspired us to identify processes and strategies that we can adapt to expand our capabilities.”

INTEC representatives met with Chilean entrepreneurs and academics who lead impact projects, such as Rogers Escalup Martínez, creator of Cicla, a company that manufactures biodegradable filaments, and Dr. Apolinaria García Cancino, from the Faculty of Biological Sciences, who developed a licensed probiotic strain to prevent gastric cancer.

For his part, Sanlley Pagán highlighted the opportunities for synergy: “We have seen a broad spectrum of projects and capabilities that offer significant potential for future collaborations. The areas of business, technology and education are spaces where we see a fertile path for joint development.”

El Director of Development and Innovation at UdeC, doctor Jorge Carpinelli Pavisich, stressed the importance of this meeting: “We prepared an intense agenda so that INTEC could learn about our mechanisms and processes of applied research aimed at industrial challenges. This visit has also allowed us to learn about INTEC and to envision future collaborations.”

The visit consolidates the efforts of both institutions to promote the exchange of knowledge, innovation and the development of sustainable solutions for the benefit of their respective communities and the global environment.
