INTEC is part of the Central America network for scientific collaboration


SANTO DOMINGO. -The Economics and Business Area of ​​the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) won a regional call to be part of the organization of Central American networks for scientific exchange and collaboration, together with other universities in Honduras, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

This network promoted by the General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System (SICA), the Central American Higher University Council (CSUCA), the Commission for the Scientific and Technological Development of Central America and Panama (CTCAP) and the International Center for Development Research of Canada (IDRC, for its acronym in English), is part of the efforts to open more spaces for links between academia and the process of Central American integration.

The project "Establishment of the Central American and Caribbean Network for Research in Economics and Development (Red-CIED)", of which INTEC is a part, is also integrated by the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), as executing entity; the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua UNAN León and the National University of Costa Rica (UNA), as collaborators.

INTEC professor Henry Rosa, who represents the academy, said that the project also received strategic support from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes of the Dominican Republic (MICM), from the governmental and decision-making approach, and of the Regional Center for the Promotion of MSMEs, from a regional perspective for further expansion and scalability of the network, as an integral part of the institutional framework of SICA.

Rosa highlighted that, during the application process, the organizers of the call received 134 projects, of which nine were selected to access seed capital of up to US $ 15,000, which will be executed in 16 months.

The call allowed the development of regional projects focused on addressing priority issues for the development of SICA member countries in the post-COVID-19 stage. The initiative was aimed at the scientific-technological community, innovators and entrepreneurs of the Central American region.

The Central American and Caribbean Network for Research in Economics and Development (RED-CIED) is conceived as a network of academics, researchers and professionals, supported by universities in the countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA) region and centers of research, whose purpose is the exchange and scientific collaboration in the various areas of the economy and development, linked to regional priorities and the scope of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Creating the RED-CIED will help to strengthen and enhance scientific exchange and collaboration at the regional level between researchers from different SICA member countries, will allow the formulation of studies and programs with regional priorities, for example, consequences and mitigation strategies of COVID-19 in the field of the economy, as well as, the promotion of entrepreneurship and socio-economic development at the territorial level.
