SANTO DOMINGO. – The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD), through its Directorate of Special Education, carried out in the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) a meeting to consolidate and validate the development of the Identification Manual and Curriculum Enrichment Strategies Guide for Students with High Intellectual Abilities.
The event, held at the Julio Ravelo Room of INTEC, aimed to socialize and integrate the contributions of participants in the education sector in updating these fundamental documents to promote inclusive education in the country.
The day brought together national, district and regional technicians, as well as specialists in special education, who participated in working sessions organized around foundation and legal framework, psychopedagogical identification and evaluation, pedagogical strategies and comprehensive development, and educational response, evaluation and promotion of learning.
During the opening ceremony, Lucía Vásquez, Director of Special Education at MINERD, highlighted the value of shared commitment. “For us, it's a great challenge to take on this enormous commitment, and I see people from different areas here as a vehicle to achieve it. Inclusive education deserves, in addition to degrees, heart. Putting what the textbooks say into practice, in the classrooms where these students are, is what we strive for,” she stated.
For its part, Mónica Caram, coordinator of the Center for Educational Studies (CEE-INTEC) of INTEC, shared the institution's satisfaction with hosting this meeting. "INTEC and the CEE are honored to have you here. For us, it will always be an honor to welcome you to this, your home, or rather, your hive," he stated.
During the day, the work teams collaborated to develop a document that will be presented in October of this year, in order to continue updating the Manual.
