INTEC delivers Outstanding Beehive Awards 2011


Santo Domingo. El Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo INTEC, made the fourth installment of the "Outstanding Hive" awards, an activity through which areas, departments or divisions that have contributed during the 2010-2011 to the strengthening of the institution were recognized, generating innovative initiatives in the order of processes , resources, quality of teaching, service to students, expansion of educational offers and bonding.

In this 2011 edition, the prizes awarded fell for the second year in a row in the Engineering Department of the institution. In the category Permanent Team of Greater Contribution, was the winner of the teaching team of the Industrial Design career, headed by its coordinator Aránzazu Toribio, the teachers and the management of Hoyma Mazara, Rafael Figueroa, Angélica Rodríguez and Margarita Rodríguez.

This team was recognized for its constant dedication to the motivation of students and teachers to develop a creative work aimed at innovation, problem solving and social responsibility. In this period they have received public recognition through the awards obtained by their students in different design competitions.

In category Temporary Team of Highest Contribution, the team for the regulation of Structural Design, formed by its teaching volunteers and the engineers José Manuel Díaz, Erick Hernández, Luis Abbott, Jesús Bairan, Santiago Suárez, Nelson Morrison, and José Benjamín, under coordination of Eng. Carlos Cordero.

This team stood out during the 2010-2011 period for the delivery to the Ministry of Public Works and put into operation of the current regulation update dating from the 70 years. Through this project, the contributions of INTEC as a pioneer institution in the development of new technologies in the national construction industry were recognized.

In addition to these two annual items, Colmena Destacada also includes the Team of historical contribution, same that is delivered every three years.

The jury that selected the winners this year was composed of the teacher of the Area of ​​Basic and Environmental Sciences, María Antonia Taveras, who served as president. As members: Mercedes Luciano, professor of the Area of ​​Health Sciences; Erick Barinas, director of Information Technology, Bernardo Echavarría, of the Business Area, Luis Toirac of the Engineering Area and the coordinator of relations with graduates, Luvil González.

Farewell to the rector Miguel J. Escala

This year, the framework of the Outstanding Beehive Awards had a special connotation. At the close of the delivery of the statuettes, the formal act of farewell to the second management of Dr. Miguel J. Escala, as rector of INTEC was carried out.

After presenting an emotional video with words of managers and collaborators who described the address and person of Dr. Escala, José Luis De Ramón, president of the Board of Regents, the highest authority of the INTEC, recognized with a plaque on behalf of said body the outstanding work that during the 6 uninterrupted years the rector Escala performed.

Also Leandra Tapia, academic vice-rector, Raymundo Jiménez, dean of health, Miriam Bobadilla, on behalf of the Academic Council and Yolanda Salazar, executive director of Human Management, handed over to the rector as an institutional gift an Ipad to which the documents that they reviewed were incorporated the hard work of Miguel Escala during his two consecutive periods in university. They include from photos and speeches, to the digital versions of each literary work written by him.

The management of Escala has been characterized by recognizing the value and contribution of students in the institutional work, for this reason, they also made an appearance in this act by giving him a gift made by the hands of the intelligentsia. Students of Industrial Design with the architect Margarita Rodríguez, vice-dean of Engineering, spoke some words on behalf of the group that made this gift and the students in general.

Miguel J. Escala began his first term as rector of INTEC in 2005, being re-elected at 2008. It will remain the position until the end of the month, when the position is handed to another experienced professional, who will succeed him.
