INTEC awards scholarships to 37 outstanding students


During the 28 years of validity of its PIES Program, INTEC has granted a scholarship to a total of 1,554 youth

SANTO DOMINGO. The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) awarded scholarships to 37 youth from high schools and colleges in the country, through its INTEC Program with Outstanding Students (PIES), a social responsibility initiative of the university that is a pioneer in recognizing academic excellence.

This year 446 students were selected from a total of 719 applications received. Due to their high performance, 45 students were selected, of which 37 attended the race of their choice at INTEC and the rest opted only for recognition. In this installment the 55.26% of the winners are women.

In 28 years the PIES has awarded the 1, 554 juniors higher education and has awarded recognition to more than two thousand students who have demonstrated their excellence.

The twenty-eighth act of recognition of Young National Talents was held in the Julio Ravelo Room of the INTEC Fountain and had as a keynote speaker the nuclear cardiologist and Consul of Palestine in the country Víctor Elías Atallah Lajam, Outstanding Graduate of INTEC (2014) .

The students of the Industrial Engineering and International Business careers, Alexis Rosanna Calderón and Frailyn De Jesús Ramírez, Young National Talents 2014, delivered the motivational speech, representing the XXVII Ronda-PIES. 

Academic authorities and members of the Board of Regents of INTEC participated in the ceremony, as well as representatives of the sponsors of PIES: Alpha Sociedad en Valores, Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, Banco Popular Dominicano, Class Engineering 1985, CLARO, Compañía de Electricidad de San Pedro de Macorís (CESPM), ESSO Standard Oil, Ramón Picazo Family, AES Dominicana Foundation, Grupo Ramos, Dominican Electronic Market (MED) and Orange.

On the FEET

The program identifies and selects outstanding baccalaureates from public and private educational centers throughout the country, in order to provide them with the opportunity to acquire high quality professional training and high social commitment at INTEC. For this, candidates must have scores on 80 points in all subjects of the baccalaureate, an average of 90 in the core subjects and undergo academic tests and interviews at the institution.

Results XXVIII Round 2015 

In 28 years, the PIES exhibits among its main achievements: 

1,554 grants awarded.

10,374 participation requests, from public lycées and private schools throughout the national geography.

2,590 young people recognized, coming from different public and private schools in the country. 

The PIES currently has 224 scholarship students, of which 37 entered INTEC during the August-October / 2015 quarter.
