INTEC and IDDI graduate 66 professionals of the Diploma in climate change
The Dominican Institute for Integral Development (IDDI) and the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) graduated 66 professionals, 36 from Santo Domingo and 30 from Samaná, from the Diploma in Climate Change in which public and private organizations participated.
Graduates of the diploma course, sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and The Nature Conservancy (TNC), belong to entities considered key actors that will contribute to the capacity of adaptation to climate change in the country from their respective organizations.
The diploma was attended by professionals from: City Hall of the National District, City of Santo Domingo North, City of Santo Domingo East, City of Constance, Jarabacoa City Council, Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, Ecological Society of Barahona (SOEBA), City Council Bayahíbe, ECORED, National Office of Climate Change, National Office of Meteorology (ONAMET), the National Geological Service and six municipalities of the Samaná province (Las Terrenas, El Limón, Santa Bárbara, Arroyo Barril, Sánchez and Las Galeras).
The Advanced Technical Program in adaptation to climate change covered an 192 hours and trained in the concepts of characterization of the territories, including tools that allow them to increase the effectiveness of their actions in the area of vulnerability reduction against climate change and increase of the ability to adapt to it in the municipalities that participated.
Among the main objectives of this program was to strengthen awareness and capacities in the municipalities of the participating localities on climate change and adaptation to it. Likewise, to improve the knowledge of the main key actors on the characteristics of the specific municipal and provincial territory, with emphasis on their vulnerability to climate change and adaptation to it, and also to provide participants with the tools that will allow them to increase the effectiveness of its action on reducing vulnerability to climate change and increasing its capacity to adapt to it in the territory where it operates.
IDDI and INTEC develop joint activities on climate change as part of a cooperation framework agreement.
