INTEC donates four mechanical ventilators to the Cruz Jiminián Clinic


SANTO DOMINGO. - Before him increase of the positive cases de COVID-19 in the country, with a higher concentration in the Great Santo Domingo, Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) donated to the Cruz Jiminián Clinic four fans mechanics Air INTEC, manufactured by a team of its students, teachers and graduates, with the aim of expanding the response capacity of this health center.

The delivery of the ventilators took place in the events room of the Eduardo Latorre postgraduate building at INTEC and was chaired by the dean of the University's Health Sciences Area, Miguel Robiou, and by Dr. Félix Cruz Jiminián. At the ceremony, Robiou described the work carried out by Cruz Jiminián and the doctors who work in his clinic as heroic, and expressed INTEC's pride in having the opportunity to contribute.

"For us it is a grain of sand to contribute to the health of the Dominican people," said Robiou, while assessing the social work carried out by the Cruz Jiminián clinic in the Cristo Rey sector and for Dominicans in general.

Upon receiving the ventilators, Cruz Jiminián stressed that his clinic is the only one to have a special emergency for COVID-19 patients with an influx of more than 40 people, daily. Likewise, he warned that before the regrowth there is no availability of beds in Greater Santo Domingo.

As part of the donation, the university will train all the health personnel of the Cruz Jiminián Clinic in the proper use of mechanical ventilation equipment.

The mechanical ventilator Air INTEC It is manufactured by a team of university students, graduates and professors with the altruistic support of various institutions. This work began as soon as the first cases of COVID-19 were registered in the country and it is one of the many ways in which INTEC has contributed to face the pandemic.

The fan, of which more than 300 unitsis of type Ambi (Airway Mask Bag Unit, in English) and is based in part on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) model, to which improvements were applied to facilitate its manufacture and operation in the country. The team received the Technological Innovation Award from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt), in 2020.

The institutions that joined INTEC in the manufacture of mechanical fans are the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, AES Dominicana, the ministries of Public Health, Higher Education, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Plásticos Multiform, Rockwell, FARCO , the Institute for Professional Technical Training (INFOTEP), JPIM, Machmaker, Mecaproject, TSM, ADERCA, Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), Acrlicos DR and Tony Rodamientos, among others.
