INTEC develops augmented reality tool for International Congress Digital Transformation 360
During the event, organized by the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs (FEM), the university presented its Extended Reality Laboratory, from which it designs resources to support academic work.
SANTO DOMINGO - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) developed an augmented reality tool to visualize the official agenda of the International Congress Digital Transformation 360, organized by the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs (FEM), which was presented during the opening ceremony of the event.
The tool was designed by the university's Extended Reality Laboratory to demonstrate the use of technology in logistics and communication environments. The technical development had two components: programming, handled by Rafael Peralta, a Software Engineering student and intern, and 3D design, led by Lépido Liriano, an INTEC graduate in Industrial Design and the laboratory's contracted expert.
The project was carried out in collaboration with FEM and Banco BHD, co-organizers of the congress. It also received support from the Vice-Rector's Office for Administration and Finance at INTEC.
Logistics application of technology
The proposal seeks to replace traditional printed programs and allow the distribution of information through digital messaging chains, centralizing the itinerary in an interactive experience visible through the use of mobile devices and contributing to the creation of more sustainable environments.
"It is an immersive experience in augmented reality format in which the program of the event's development is presented in real time, making it dynamic, innovative and interactive," explained Jeanette Chaljub, academic coordinator of the Basic and Environmental Sciences Area and head of the Extended Reality Laboratory.
Similarly, representatives from the partner organizations highlighted the value and opportunity this collaboration represents for the event. "This type of initiative that INTEC undertakes through its Extended Reality Laboratory is disruptive and has marked a turning point in everything related to digitization and digital transformation," stated Estalin Sánchez, Manager of Non-Financial Solutions and Partnerships at BHD.
Likewise, the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs highlighted the university's openness in making this proposal possible. "At a 360 digital transformation congress, it was impossible for INTEC not to be present. We approached the university, and they were always open; they have given us wonderful support with this very special experience that all the participants are enjoying," said Rossy Escotto, president of the FEM, emphasizing the impact of technology on the development of the event.
The augmented reality tool created by INTEC works as follows: attendees receive a card containing a QR code and a graphic marker with specific figures. By scanning the code with a smart device's camera, the device identifies the marker and projects a three-dimensional itinerary with the congress's events and schedules.
INTEC STEM
As part of its participation in the Congress, the university presented its INTEC STEM initiative, an educational endeavor that seeks to train students and teachers from pre-university educational centers in STEM tools, as a way to promote the careers that are most needed for the productive sectors.
At the university's booth, audiovisual presentations were shown highlighting these experiences, through which INTEC has reached thousands of students and professors from various parts of the country. The event included the participation of INTEC's Vice-Rector of Administration and Finance, Alliet Ortega; the Vice-Rector of Research and Outreach, Rosario Aróstegui; and Jeanette Chaljub, a researcher and academic coordinator in the Basic and Environmental Sciences Area.
