INTEC welcomes the Chinese new year

SANTO DOMINGO. The arrival of the Chinese New Year, declared as the Year of the Goat, was celebrated in style by the International Language Center of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) in an act that has become a tradition for the academy.

The representative of the Office of Commercial Development of the People's Republic of China, Mr. GAO Shou Jian, led the ceremony in which INTEC authorities and students of the Mandarin language shared their knowledge about the millenary Chinese culture through artistic manifestations such as painting , singing and dancing.

The activity, which took place in the Osvaldo García de la Concha auditorium, was chaired by the Academic Vice-Rector José Feliz Marrero, the Dean of the Social Sciences and Humanities Area, Migdalia Martínez, and by the Foreign Languages ​​Module Coordinator of the International Language Center from INTEC, Ruth Espínola. 

"This activity aims to share with La Colmena a bit of Chinese culture through songs, dances, martial arts, poetry, drama and testimonies of INTEC students who have studied in China," explained Espínola when referring to the objectives of the activity .

In her opening remarks, Lcda. Migdalia Martínez pointed out that: “This new Chinese year is that of the Wood Goat and its general attributes are calm, gentleness, creativity, perseverance, frankness and honesty, generosity and a strong sense of justice, and finally, those born under this sign prefer to be and work in a group,… ..and in this sense we could affirm that INTEC is a Wood Goat because we fully share these values ​​and principles …… that day and day we try to cultivate in our students , teachers and administrators. It is not in vain that INTEC has as a symbol and is identified with a Beehive: a group organized on the basis of solidarity and collective effort. "

The dozens of active students of the Mandarin language, divided into six learning groups, took the stage to entertain the audience. The 1 level performed the song "Welcome to Beijing", and the 2 level intoned the songs "The descendants of the dragon" and "I am looking for a friend", while the 3 level sang "What a beautiful jasmine".

The 4 level presented the drama "Chinese New Year, what shall we do?" And the 6 level, a representation of Chinese art, with traditional Chinese painting, cut out of paper and a Chinese opera makeup exhibition. 

Likewise, the Industrial Design student Johanna López, winner of the Mandarin language skills competition “The Chinese Bridge” and other finalists of the contest participated with presentations.

Of great interest to the public was the Taijiquan exhibition, which was presented by the Consul of the People's Republic of China in the country, Cheng Mingwei.

Finally, attendees enjoyed a toast of Chinese domplines and shared dresses with traditional Chinese costumes.

The Chinese New Year is celebrated in INTEC since the year 2010, which has turned it into a tradition that is always headed by Mandarin students.
