At its traditional institutional breakfast, the rector of INTEC presented the achievements made during the year and outlined the main strategies of the academy as part of its Strategic Plan 2023-2027
SANTO DOMINGO. - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) celebrated its 52nd anniversary with a traditional institutional breakfast, in which important advances and achievements made by the university in key areas such as international accreditations, educational innovation and scientific research were recognized.
During the event, Rector Julio Sánchez Maríñez gave a speech in which he highlighted INTEC's ongoing efforts to establish itself as a benchmark in higher education, both nationally and internationally.
Among the most important milestones of the last year, Sánchez Maríñez highlighted the accreditation of the Electrical, Mechatronics and Industrial Engineering programs by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), positioning INTEC as the first university in the country to obtain this prestigious accreditation.
“We are proud and satisfied that after a sustained effort of six years, these programs have been accredited by ABET, the world leader and the most demanding accreditation body in the area of engineering and technologies,” said the rector, and then reported that the Engineering Department continues to work for the accreditation of other programs.
Sánchez Maríñez welcomed the continued international accreditation of the Psychology and Medicine programs, highlighting that the reaccreditation by international organizations such as the National Council for Teaching and Research in Psychology of Mexico (CNEIP) and the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Medical Education (CAAM-HP) reflects INTEC's commitment to academic excellence.
He also pointed out the specialized reaccreditation of undergraduate and graduate programs in the Area of Economics and Business until 2030 through the Board of Commissioners of the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE).
The rector also highlighted the project Learning Factory, a collaboration with Penn State University that allows students from different disciplines to work on real projects in collaboration with companies. To date, 78 students have participated in 20 projects with 12 companies in the country, achieving recognition for their educational innovation awarded by Proindustria. “Learning Factory is here to stay as a hallmark of INTEC,” he said.
