INTEC brings 29 doctors to the education system


Some 119 professionals receive titles from the Nova Southeastern University cluster in the country, the majority of master's degrees

About 33 new doctors, 29 del Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and four from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), entered the national education system on Sunday as Doctors in Education, during the third graduation of the Nova Southeastern University (NSU) cluster in the Dominican Republic.

At a time when education and research are considered priority needs for development, the entry of these new professionals into the system implies the emergence of a new generation of future leaders in the country's education sector. The dissertations applied, as part of the doctorate of the graduates, involved interventions in educational institutions, which have been improved by their work.

The number of doctors is one of the international indicators to assess the development of research and development in science and technology of the countries, so the Strategic Plan of Science, Technology and Innovation 2008-2018 of the Ministry of Higher Education , Science and Technology (MESCyT) intends to increase this indicator significantly.


Since the 2000 year, INTEC has pioneered the implementation in the country of the training program for the educational sector of the cluster of universities with Nova Southeastern University of Fort Lauderdale, Florida (United States). The graduates of the first round of the doctorate of the INTEC-NSU cluster, graduates of 2005, have been teachers in Puerto Rico, Ecuador and Peru.

During the ceremony, held this Sunday in the Auditorium of the San Pablo House, they also received their master's degrees 31 graduates of the Higher Institute of Teacher Training "Salome Ureña" (ISFODOSU), 19 of the Dominican-American University (UNICDA) and 36 of the Catholic University of the East (UCADE). The master's degrees were in Curriculum, Instruction and Technology, Management and Administration of Educational Programs and Teaching English as a Second Language.

The main speech was given by Rafael Toribio, director of the Social Management Governance Center (CEGES-INTEC) and ex-rector of the university, who received a recognition from the NSU for his support of this doctoral program since the 2000 year for training of the first 40 doctors who graduated under this program, with the additional sponsorship of the Brugal Foundation, the Falconbridge Foundation and the Dominican Government.

The graduation ceremony was led by Wells Singleton, dean of the Abraham S. Fischler School Of Education at NSU, Pedro Hernández, Director of the Latin American Institute for Educational Leadership (ILALE), Armando Rodríguez, executive director of the Educational Programs for Latin America of NSU, ​​Jorge Blanco, Rolando M. Guzmán, Rector of INTEC, Francisco Vegazo, representing the Rector of the UASD, Thelma Camarena, representing the Rector of UNICDA, Ana Dolores Guzmán, Rector of ISFODOSU and Monsignor Gregorio Nicanor Peña de UCADE.
