INTEC, Adoacero and MICM will create a laboratory to carry out tests on steel rods and other materials

SANTO DOMINGO. - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), the Dominican Steel Association (Adosteel) and the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM) will create a Materials Testing Laboratory that will have cold pulling and bending equipment, which will be used to perform essay tests for steel rods, Construction materials, and corrugated steel bars y smooth which are used for concrete reinforcement.

The laboratory equipment will be provided by Adoacero, through a philanthropic trust, and will be operated and managed independently by INTEC. This is contemplated by a collaboration agreement that was signed by the rector of INTEC, Julio Sanchez Marinez; the executive director of Adoacero, Marcelo salazar; and the Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, Victor Bisono Haza.

In the signing ceremony held in the INTEC Social Security auditorium, Sánchez Maríñez thanked Adoacero for formalizing the collaboration created by the Materials Testing Laboratory, as it allows the university to continue fulfilling its mission of serving society, in this case with the evaluation of an essential construction material such as rods.

"Of the 32 laboratories that INTEC has, without counting the computer science ones, many have been built under public-private alliances or triple helix alliances," said the rector of INTEC and gave the Home Automation Laboratory as examples, for which there was the Eaton support; the Haas Technical Education Center, which brought a university like Penn State for the first time 15 years ago, which collaborated with a group of companies from the industrial sector to establish that laboratory.

For his part, the executive director of Adoacero assured that the establishment of a Materials Testing Laboratory is an event that will mark a milestone in the history of the metallurgical industry, the construction sector, and the progress of the Dominican Republic.

Salazar pointed out that the Laboratory will be able to carry out test tests of steel rods with the highest standards of quality and precision. “This laboratory will have state-of-the-art equipment, such as a universal cold bending and tensile testing machine, a shear testing device, axial extensometers, test tubes, mandrels, among others, which will allow INTEC to offer testing tests for rods. steel required by the Dominican Standard 458 and the Dominican Technical Regulations”.

He indicated that the Laboratory will fill an existing gap in the Dominican market and will contribute to the development and sustainable growth of the country's industry, given that not only will the country benefit, but it will also meet a requirement that he considers crucial in the market. international.

Meanwhile, Minister Bisonó Haza extended his congratulations to INTEC and Adoacero for the initiative to establish a Materials Testing Laboratory that will provide quality control and inspection services, and conformity assessment of steel products that are marketed. in Dominican territory.

"This Laboratory will have national and international accreditations so that the tests are valid before the national regulatory bodies," said the Minister of Industry and Commerce, while thanking INTEC "for always being aware of contributing to the social transformation of the country , the continuous promotion of the quality of life of its inhabitants and the preservation of its moral and material patrimony, to bequeath it improved to future generations”.
