INTEC opens its doors to the Industrial Interschool Competition of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes


SANTO DOMINGO. - The first edition of the industrial Interschool Competition, Aimed at sixth-year secondary school students, it has the participation of 85 young people from different educational centers and focuses on the logistics and transport sector, with the aim of bring to the classroom the sectoral problems of the Dominican industry.

The activity that takes place in the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) is organized by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Together with the Start Education Foundation, through the 512 Institute, and the General Directorate of Customs (DGA), and the support of that university. Participants will become familiar with the Logistics and Transport sector, from which they will explore their challenges to propose innovative and sustainable solutions, through social actors specialized in the subject, while developing their proposals for the competition.

Alliet Ortega, Vice President for Administration and Finance of INTEC, welcomed the participating students and thanked the collaboration with the allied institutions in the development of the project.

"For INTEC to be able to contribute to this project for the sake of the fiftieth anniversary is very significant. It's 50 years, a legacy that inspires and moves us to the future. Being part of this response to the needs of the market has been part of the work of our university”, he said, while recognizing the importance of logistics within the current labor market and the contribution of INTEC through the master's degree in Supply Chain Management and Engineering From the 2012.

He remembered that the INTEC is the only university in the country that has the career of logistics and transportation engineering from 2018.

The gap that exists in the participation of women in STEAM careers (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) and INTEC's commitment to abolish barriers that limit the participation of professionals in these fields was another of the issues addressed by the vice-rector of INTEC.

Carlos Guillermo Flaquer, MICM Vice Minister of Free Zones and Special Regimes, also highlighted logistics work in the business environment by mentioning that "logistics is one of the five most important careers of the future and the bridge between the digital world and the global world. physical".

On the other hand, the executive director of the 512 Institute, Ángela Español, reiterated the center's commitment to the transformation, development and professional strengthening of the Dominican educational sector, while at the same time motivating the participants to commit to the project.

“Commitment is betting on yourselves. That is not selfishness, it is that, when we grow, then we are capable of contributing to others”, Angela mentioned in her intervention.

Participating students will receive face-to-face training on October 15, 22 and 29, and November 5, as well as a virtual training program between each face-to-face meeting. The 30 teams will deliver an essay and a pre-recorded speech, of which 12 will go on to the last stage and will have the opportunity to win one of the first three places from the proposals created, which will be presented in the grand final of the competition on November 26 this year.
