INTEC 711: how to respond to emergencies?

The university reinforces security and the ability to respond to different situations of risk

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) has the Emergency Plan INTEC 711 which includes the strengthening of the monitoring and surveillance system, the expansion of medical care services and an internal call line for emergency cases.

The plan aims to prevent and mitigate situations of collective and individual vulnerability in the environment of the academic campus, responding to national and international standards in terms of safety and prevention of occupational hazards.

As part of the security platform, the university has published the website 711.intec.edu.do, with videos and educational materials that guide the educational community on how to react to emergency situations such as hurricanes, fires, earthquakes and threats to personal security

With regard to individual security, INTEC has reinforced monitoring and surveillance systems with the installation of a Security and Emergency Monitoring and Control Center (CECOM), which is equipped with a specialized CCTV (Closed Caption Television) system to control all the areas of the campus, so that any anomalous situation can be attended immediately by the security personnel.

"The CECOM will be connected to an internal 711 emergency call system, which works from the 7: 00 AM to the 10: 30 PM", explains Professor Omar Ramos, security expert and responsible for the design and implementation of the Plan of emergencies of the INTEC.

In terms of collective security, INTEC 711 includes the dissemination in the educational community of an emergency guide, equipped with instructional videos and safety tips to respond to cases of hurricane, earthquake, fire, social disturbances, evacuation, medical emergencies, assaults and kidnappings.

The installation of the INTEC 711 Emergency Plan is the result of a systematic work of several years that began with vulnerability assessments, correction of campus facilities for contingencies and provision of equipment. Likewise, work has been carried out on evacuation routes, first aid and rescue protocols to establish a culture of prevention.

In the same way, several teams of volunteers were trained to integrate the evacuation, rescue and accompaniment brigades in first aid. The Vice Presidency for Administration and Finance (809-567-9271 ext 432) receives all the people who have the vocation and desire to help so that they can also join the teams.

How is INTEC 711 activated?

When the threat of a contingency situation is registered, the Emergency Plan and the Emergency Committee (COE-INTEC) are activated, which is the entity in charge of making decisions to prevent risk situations in the university.

The Communication Plan is also activated in case of contingency situations, through which the Institutional Communication Department assumes the dissemination of instructions to the educational community through its official means: website  http://www.intec.edu.do; online magazine La Colmena Virtual  http://colmena.intec.edu.do and social networks Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter (hashtag #INTECALERTA).

If an emergency situation occurs within the campus, the teachers, students, collaborators and visitors of the INTEC have at their disposal the emergency line 711, which operates from the 7: 00 AM to the 10: 30 PM with qualified personnel to respond immediate
