Start in INTEC the National Senior Male Chess Tournament
Santo Domingo. With the participation of the best 64 chess players in the country, the LV National Senior Men's Chess Tournament, dedicated to the international master Yuan Eu Liao, was inaugurated this Friday, May, under the organization of the Dominican Chess Federation, on the occasion of the INTEC cup, from Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo.
The activity carried out on the campus of the university began with the placement of the participating chess players, belonging to some 26 associations in the country and the words of welcome of the rector Rolando M. Guzmán, president of the organizing committee of the sports competition together with Pedro Domínguez Brito, President of the Dominican Chess Federation (FDA).
The university sponsors the tournament this year with the interest of strengthening the practice of this discipline among its students for its benefits for the development of thought. In January, the INTEC held its first simultaneous chess with the participation of International Masters, and during the tournament it will hold complementary activities for students and interested in learning the game-science.
Luisín Mejía Oviedo, president of the Dominican Olympic Committee made the Olympic exhortation speech, while Pedro Domínguez Brito, president of the Dominican Chess Federation, made the keynote speech.
In the development of the activity the organizers gave a plaque of recognition to the teacher Yuan Eu Liao, for his extensive contributions to Dominican chess. Liao was in charge of the move of honor that started the competitions scheduled for a 11 rounds, being the last on Sunday 27 of this month of May.
The tournament includes cash prizes of over 150 thousand pesos, thanks to the support of Claro, the Teacher Training Institute Salome Ureña (ISFODOSU) and Banco BHD.
At the opening were Román Jáquez, general director of the event, Nelson Ortiz, principal referee and Parménides Guerrero, assistant referee. The Minister of Youth, Franklin Rodríguez, Junior Noboa, representative of the Ministry of Sports, attended.
