INTEC Reactors and Bioreactors Laboratory inaugurated
SANTO DOMINGO. - Teachers and students of the Environmental Sciences Area of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the biotechnology company TheGreenCell inaugurated the reactor and bioreactor laboratory, a space intended for the development of specialized, academic and research projects related to Biotechnology, wastewater treatment and water purification.
The laboratory funded by INTEC, the Scientific and Technological Research Incentive Fund (FONDOCYT) and TheGreenCell will be fundamentally dedicated to scientific research, and will undertake academic activities with students of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Engineering careers related to plant biotechnology and Sewage treatment.
Carlos Sanlley, INTEC Research Director, recalled the importance of laboratory spaces for the development of impact projects on society. “I hope we get a lot of beneficial projects out of this space,” he said.
Jessica Feliz, teacher in the Engineering Area and coordinator of the INTEC laboratories, said that “There was a lot of effort we invested to be able to achieve this milestone that we celebrate today and we are very proud of it because it is the beginning of not only the project we are working on. with TheGreenCell, but at the same time it is a place that students will be able to take advantage of from an academic perspective and, with every step we take, we contribute to making their life and learning cycle here better.”
Marisol Pagés, executive director of TheGreenCell, hopes that the projects developed in the laboratory will allow solving problems at the national level. “We are super happy with the projects we are carrying out with the university in both Biotechnology and Engineering, and we are currently expanding the number of projects,” she reported.
Currently, INTEC and TheGreenCell develop a project de cell micropropagation of plant tissue on a laboratory scale, With which will reproduce stem cells of various species of Facilities and will develop innovative technologies to scale their production to a commercial level.
At the opening ribbon cutting were Diana Corrales, coordinator of the Environmental Management Center of INTEC (CEGA-INTEC) and those in charge of the Laboratory Diego del Orbe, Adriana Rojas and Pamela Tejada, as well as directors, professors and students from the Area of Basic and Environmental Sciences.
