72 graduated from the Ministry of Environment in the graduates of Environmental Impact Assessment and Management of Protected Areas
The USAID Environmental Protection Program and the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) graduated 72 members of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, who participated in the Diplomas in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Management of Protected Areas (GAP).
The objective of the Diploma in Environmental Impact Assessment - which in its first round had a total of 36 participants - is to train human resources in the capacity to administer, evaluate and review Environmental Impact Assessment studies in accordance with the procedures and standards. legally established in our country.
The diploma course takes place over a period of 15 weeks - in a period of 8 contact hours per week - for a total of 120 hours. Of the total of 36 participants, 12 were female, for 33.3% and 24 male, for 66.6%.
The fundamental purpose of the diploma in Protected Areas Management (GAP) is to provide knowledge and tools that facilitate the development of skills in the participants in the management of Protected Areas, focused on the in situ conservation of biodiversity. The Diploma in GAP was given to a total of 36 provincial directors, administrators and technical personnel of the Ministry of the Environment, of which 8 were female for 22% and 28 male for 78%.
Among the 36 participants of the Diploma in Environmental Impact Assessment and the 36 of the Diploma in Management of Protected Areas, a total of 72 participants. The graduates are part of the actions carried out by the USAID Program for Environmental Protection, which is executed by The Nature Conservancy and the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo through the Center for Environmental Management (CEGA-INTEC) with funding from USAID.
Within the framework of this activity -also- the 36 participants were graduated in the diploma “Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas, which was carried out with the support of the United States Agency for Development (USAID), through of its Dominican Alliance for Sustainable Tourism (DSTA) program, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC).
Representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture and associations such as the Association of Fishermen of Boba (ASOPESCA), the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and the Association of Hoteliers and Restaurants of the Dominican Republic- (ASONAHORES). The objective of the diploma was for the participants to learn how ecotourism can be used as a sustainable strategy to positively generate environmental, social and economic impacts on communities, protected areas and biodiversity.
The graduation ceremony was attended by the Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Jaime David Fernández Mirabal, the Rector of INTEC Miguel Escala, the USAID Economic Policy Advisor, Duty Greene, Odalís Pérez, Project Manager of the USAID, Indhira de Jesús, Director of the Environmental Protection Program, José Contreras, Manager of the Environmental Protection Program at INTEC, Rosa Otero, Director of Trade and Environment of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and Jeannette Haché, Training coordinator of the program.
