Government to support Alzheimer's research project led by INTEC and AI Robotix
President Luis Abinader, Vice President Raquel Peña, and Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza learned about the progress of the initiative, which uses artificial intelligence to accelerate the discovery of new answers to this neurodegenerative disease.
SANTO DOMINGO - The Dominican government would support the Alzheimer's research project being developed by Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the company AI Robotix, after President Luis Abinader, Vice President Raquel Peña, and Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza learned about the progress and potential impact of this scientific initiative.
During a meeting at the National Palace led by the rector of INTEC, Arturo Del Villar, and the CEO of AI Robotix, Juan Carlos Guilbe, the research was presented, which integrates artificial intelligence, neuroscience, molecular biology and data science to accelerate the discovery of new paths of study that contribute to the early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's.
At the meeting, the authorities learned about the scope of the project, considered one of the most ambitious research initiatives in artificial intelligence applied to health promoted from the Dominican Republic, as well as the opportunities it represents to position the country as a regional benchmark in science, innovation and technological development.
The project combines the analytical capabilities of advanced artificial intelligence models with the expertise of national and international researchers to analyze large volumes of data and biomedical information from scientific publications, identify patterns, and generate new scientific hypotheses that can direct new lines of research to accelerate the development of treatments for this neurodegenerative disease.
The initiative is the result of a strategic alliance between INTEC and AI Robotix and includes the participation of the prominent Argentine neurologist and psychiatrist, Ricardo Allegri. world leader in neuroscience and the study of Alzheimer's; as well as the professor from the Health Sciences Area of INTEC, Manuel Colomé, and other specialists in neurology, artificial intelligence, molecular biology and data science, who consolidate a model of collaboration between academia, the technological sector and the international scientific community.
During the meeting, the rector of INTEC thanked President Abinader for dedicating a few minutes of his schedule to learn about the innovative research project with which the university, under the leadership of the Health Sciences Area, and the participation of a multidisciplinary team, and the company AI Robotix hopes to provide relevant information for the treatment of Alzheimer's, a disease that affects more than 55 million people worldwide.
Meanwhile, Juan Carlos Guilbe said he was grateful that first INTEC, as a leading research academy in the Dominican Republic, and now the Government, are supporting research that could mark a turning point in the approach to Alzheimer's disease.
Government support would strengthen the development of this research and open opportunities to expand collaboration between the State, academia and the private sector in high-impact projects for health and innovation.
