Explain Voluntary Agreements on Environmental Compliance in the DR-CAFTA Framework


Santo Domingo. Within the framework of the actions carried out by the Environment Ministry, with the support of the USAID Program for Environmental Protection, with the aim of motivating and encouraging Dominican companies to protect the environment, the conference was held "Mechanisms of the Voluntary Agreements of Environmental Compliance within the Framework of DR-CAFTA ".

Rosaura Pimentel, coordinator of the Cleaner Production component of the Environmental Protection Program explained that the main objective of this activity was "Explain the tool of the Voluntary Mechanisms of environmental compliance according to the provisions of the DR-CAFTA to the main actors in the Dominican Republic and the general public ".

Three fundamental topics were addressed at the conference: “Legal and environmental aspects of the Free Trade Agreement between the United States, Central America and the Dominican Republic, whose speaker was Ariel Gautreaux Guzmán, Legal Analyst, Directorate of Foreign Trade (DICOEX), Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

The "International experience of public-private agreements as Voluntary Mechanisms" was the second topic addressed in the conference, which was in charge of Yolanda Salazar, Director of the National Cleaner Production Center of El Salvador and the "Application of public-private agreements with the productive sector in the Dominican Republic ”was the last topic of the conference, which was presented by Jehovah Peña, Representative of the Project for Strengthening the Banana Value Chain (CNC / UNDP).

The activity was attended by the Director of the USAID Program for Environmental Protection, Ing. Indhira de Jesús, the Cleaner Production Director of the Environment Ministry, Zacarías Navarro, as well as representatives of Dominican companies and industries, as well as the sectors agricultural, livestock and manufacturing of the country.
