SANTO DOMINGO. The doctor Heriberto Rodríguez Bonet, professor of mastery in Clinical Nutriology of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), was recognized by the Dominican Medical Association (DCM) as "Master of Dominican Medicine ", during an event held at the National Library Pedro Henríquez Ureña.   

A trajectory of 41 years at national and international level, mainly in the area of ​​surgery, its vocation of service, teaching work, bibliographic production and its ethical responsibility, support that it received the highest award granted by the medical association currently chaired by Waldo Ariel Suero . 

The doctors Rubén Darío Pimentel, José Ludovino Sánchez Díaz, Julio Amado Castaños Guzmán and Erasmo Vásquez Henríquez were also recognized in the activity.

 Rodríguez Bonet was born in San Jose de los Llanos (San Pedro de Macoris), is the second of seven children of the couple made up of Teresa Bonet Manzanillo and Heriberto Rodriguez Sosa. He emigrated at age four to Bayaguana, in Monte Plata, a town where he spent his childhood and developed his social roots. 

Teaching work

Rodríguez Bonet was professor de surgical pathology y experimental surgery from INTEC from November 1980 to October 1983. He taught surgery at the Technological University of Santiago (UTESA) from 1984 to 1988.                    

At the Universidad Central del Este (UCE) he was a professor of surgical clinic, and coordinator of Surgery Intern at Padre Billini Hospital from 1996 to 2013. Meanwhile, at the UASD he is a professor (position won by contest in 1984) of pathology and surgical semiology, thoracic surgery y abdominal and surgical clinic. 

At the graduate level, he teaches at the surgery residence of the Teaching Hospital Doctor Padre Billini and from the 2003 he teaches the Clinical Nutriology Clinical Nutrition at INTEC.                                                   

He has participated in the preparation of various subject study programs, degree rotations, continuing education and postgraduate courses, such as the Specialization Program in General Surgery of Padre Billini Teaching Hospital, reviewed and approved by the 1990 Surgery Service, revised and modified in 1993, 1995, 2007 and currently in force.

Developed the plan selected by the UASD to discuss and develop a common program for surgery residences. He wrote the continuing education course-workshop for Clinical Nutritionists: Parenteral and Enteral Feeding (ALPE), endorsed by INTEC.

In addition, he has participated as a teacher or coordinator in nine continuing education courses, advised more than 30 undergraduate thesis and five post-graduate. He has also been sworn in more than 20 thesis exams of the UASD.    

The former president of the Dominican College of Surgeons has published research papers in national and foreign medical journals; He has dictated 58 conferences at national scientific events and 22 at international congresses. In addition, 20 has produced scientific videos.

The book "General Chemistry Exercises" It was his greatest contribution during his years as a high school teacher. This text was registered in 1972 in the Secretary of State for Education. 

Studies

He completed his primary studies at the Pantaleón Castillo School in Bayaguana, where he founded the first cultural and sports youth clubs in that municipality. His family moved to Santo Domingo where he attended high school at the Liceo Manuel Rodríguez Objío.  

In its eagerness to become 
in medical, and at politically difficult times for the country, he entered the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) graduating as Doctor of Medicine at 1975. 

In 1994 Dr. Rodríguez Bonet devised and organized the Renal Transplant Unit of Padre Billini Teaching Hospital, of which he was coordinator and surgeon for two years, until 1996.       

One month after graduating, he was accepted at the Calixto García General Teaching Hospital in Havana, the health center with the greatest academic tradition in Cuba and one of the most recognized in Latin America, where he specialized in General Surgery, finishing at the end of 1979, with Final average rating of 96.5 (outstanding).  

The post-graduate management of the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba selected annually, for publication purposes, the best thesis of the different specialties and that year they chose that of Dr. Rodríguez Bonet. Due to his high qualifications, he was able to perform subspecialty in Splanchnic Oncological Surgery at the National Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology of Havana (1979 - 1980).

He is a member of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD); of the Dominican College of Surgeons (CDC) was president, founder of the Dominican Society of Clinical Nutriology (SDNC) and the Dominican Association of Endoscopic Surgery (ADOCE) and an associate member of the Dominican Society of Gastroenterology (SDG).                 

He is an honorary member of the Cuban Society of Surgery and of the International Society of Surgery (ISS), as well as of the International Association for Surgery of Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care (IATSIC), and was founder of the Latin American Society of Surgeons ( SILAC). He is from the Venezuelan Society of Surgery and current president of the Latin American Federation of Surgery (FELAC).
