INTEC students win competition MESCyT Business Plans

SANTO DOMINGO.- A technological application and a page for buying and selling items developed by students of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) won the first and second place of the Business Competition organized annually by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT).

Mecto Parking, project winner of the first place, is a mobile application to manage the parking system of public spaces, so that users can know the availability and location of the nearest available parking. It was developed by Software Engineering students Charlin Agramonte and Michael Arias, who presented it for the first time at the 2013 Intecnology Fair.

The team received RD $ 100 thousand from MESCyT as seed capital to put into operation its business plan, and two Kindle Fire Tablets, which were given to them by the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation of INTEC as recognition.

The second place corresponded to Clasifica.do, a page of purchase and sale of items that is positioned as an intermediary between the buyer and the seller. The page, created by the Mechatronics Engineering student, Adel Rodríguez and the Industrial Engineering student Amelia González, is the first of its kind in the country that offers the facility of making payments without using cash, in a way that guarantees more security in the process.

Clasifica.do received seed capital of RD $ 50 thousand from Mescyt, and the team members were awarded by the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center of INTEC with two 1 Tera capacity hard disks.

More winners

To these two is added a third project that will be developed at INTEC by a group of graduates from Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA), and which consists of a company manufacturing plates and screws for the surgical treatment of fractures.

Carlos Eves, Ansel de la Cruz, María Esther Rodríguez, Guillermo Mejía, Elian Cruz and Welington Decena students of Industrial and Mechanical Engineering developed the LCP-ITLA project for the manufacture, sale and distribution of osteosynthesis equipment.

The young people, graduates of ITLA Automated Manufacturing, will build plates and screws for fracture surgeries in titanium, a more resistant and biocompatible material than stainless steel, which is currently used. In addition, the plates and screws would be manufactured for the first time in the country which would reduce the costs of treatment for patients. In the development of their business plan, the young people counted on the advice of the Dominican Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology.

The representatives of the three groups will receive their prize in an award ceremony that the MESCyT will announce soon.
