Psychology students will work with children who wander in the Colonial Zone

SANTO DOMINGO. A group of term students of the Career of Psychology of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) will develop a program of clinical-alternative intervention aimed at children who roam the streets of the Colonial Zone, with a proposal that won the call for an Innovative Educational Project made by the Ministry of Education.

The students Maite Rigamonti, Anybel Guzman, Moise Regis Erica Reyes, Perla Castillo, Claudia Grullón and Desirée Castillo, under the guidance of their teachers Patricia Liranzo Soto and Rocío Hernández Mella, submitted the project "Looking towards: playful and artistic interventions in children and street girls. "

The actors of this investigation are the boys and girls who roam the streets of the Colonial Zone and who are taken to the Department of the Tourist Police (POLITUR).

The students will carry out the workshops and activities proposed together with the POLITUR staff, who are, in turn, key actors in this project, since, once trained, they will have multiple and varied strategies to better manage this population of children. and street girls.

Through intervention, we seek to achieve a redefinition of the knowledge of children, so that they know themselves better and develop a positive self-esteem, making them aware of their capabilities and potential.

The proposal will be developed with a total budget of RD $ 300,000 that will be delivered through the Steering Fund for Social Dialogue of the Ministry of Education. The purpose of this Fund is to stimulate the development of cooperation experiences in the "field", which allow organizations to get involved and interconnect the educational system.
